When my saxo vtr is warmed up if its left to idle the fan comes on to stop it overheating should it be runnig at this sort of temperature?

yes, the radiator cannot cool itself without the fan or with cold air flowing through it

yes i know that i was just wondering if it was common for vtrs to run this hot as in all the other cars i have owned the fan very rarely comes on!

if you think you do have a problem, run the car at hot idle, then squeeze the coolant pipe which runs from the top of the radiator to the thermostat housing on the engine. if it's solid when you squeeze it, then you have normal coolant circulation and you're ok. if it isn't solid, then the coolant isn't getting to the engine and there is a problem. hope that helps smileys/smiley2.gif

my fan comes on loads as does my mates so you should be ok. The fan seems to come on if the temp needle gets over the middle line on the gauge - my fan cools it down just below the line...

I have a 4 - 1 manifold and because of this my under bonnet temps are rather hot!! So mines constantly coming on smileys/smiley17.gif
