crunching noise??

hi guys, when i rev the engine up to 2500 reves there is a crunching noise, at 3000 revs it stops. you can't hear it when ticking over or anywhere up to 2500 revs. it happens whilst moving (all gears) or in nutral (with clutch to floor), can someone help?

could be something to do with one of the individula gears or one of the shafts leading into or out of the gearbox.
