I'm going to treat my car to some better uprated front comps. Thing is I know absolutely f*ck all about wiring.

I've found some front components (http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/dynamics-sd52-p-5522.html) that pred reccomended to someone. I'm after the same sort of speakers or better for the same price. Any suggestions on that? I'm not after a sub as of yet, as I require my boat quite alot and I need the space, but I would like a bit of bass (not so much that parts fall off) :p

Just some questions about wiring and what not as I couldn't find the answers:

1. Will I need an Amp for just the front comps, If I do could you reccomend one (what should I look for)?
2. Will I need to remove my front seats and get the carpet out for front comps?
3. Does it not just need to run off the standard wires for the speakers or will I need additional wiring?

I warned you I knew feck all about wiring speakers. :A: Any help would be great thanks all.

If I need anymore answers I'll post here :y:

1. you wont need an amp but i strongly advice you do as it will give your speakers alot mote power and will sound aloy better althought they can be run from the h/u
2.nope
3.they can be run of the standard wires but only if powered from the h/u but it is more advicable to run from proper speaker wire, fro this thou you will have to drill a small hole in the door to run the wire into the car unless you are lucky and can get into the loom

for amps id look at 2nd hand mate, im running my components and kickpods of phoenix gold amps and that supplying them with more than enough power to sound great
i picked my pair up of ebay for £30 from different people but the same model. but a small jbl amp would work.
what would be your budget for an amp
and thoses speakers are a great base to start with.

So I'd be best going after a decent amp as well. I would be looking around £30 for an amp but what should I look for in an amp?

So with the new speakers I'll need to drill a hole in both doors with the wiring coming from the headunit I'm guessing you drill just under where the wiring is currently positioned?

With the new wire it connects straight into the back of the headunit where the original speaker wires went? Or will the carpet comes up for that?

The reason I'm asking about the carpet is because if I'm going to need to get it up I may as well change the seats over at the same time and get everything sorted at once... but then the airbag warning light will come on etc. etc.

Any wire you could reccomend?

Thanks for your help by the way, I know I'm a complete numpty when it comes down to this. ;)

if you decide to get an amp for the front speakers. just wire the amp to the front speaker wires behind the sterio. just cut them and wire them to the amp. saves messing about drilling holes in your car. plus your sterio will have to come out for to wire the amp , so may aswell do it that way while your there.

you wont get a decent amp for 30 pound mate unless you get a bargain on ebay, you need an amp tht puts out 2 x 60 rms :y:

just get the components and wirte them o the headunit for now then you can add an amp later as you will need wiring, that will cost you 30 pound though

Hmmm cutting wires or drilling holes... both awkward :p where abouts should I chop and any way to completely identify the left to the right speaker, and you just put it straight into the back of the amp?

Thanks for your help. :y:

Cheers pred, sort of answer I was looking for; you god of all things ICE :A:

Safest bet for me tbh as I can't honestly be trusted with a drill and chopping my wires.

The speakers would give me a significant difference in sound quality wouldnt they?

Rep for all those who gave me help.

your sterio should have what cable is what on the sterio itsself. so you would just cut they cables you need(front speakers). tape the ends comin from the sterio as they won`t be getting used. and the ends your left with on the sterio loom will be wired to your amp.

edit - you need a switch wire also which will be marked on your sterio, so it tells your amp to switch on when you turn the sterio on.

yes mate you will notice a lot better sound quality, obviously dont turn them up straight away you have to break them in (like a virgin :p ) so just start off low volumes and then build it up :y:

Well the comps have arrived and I've been experimenting. Now comes the hard part/s.

I read the guide:

http://www.talkaudio.co.uk/vbb/showthread.php?t=159311

and was really determined to do my tweeters just like this... however it has worked out very expensive for things I'm only going to use once :n: So I'm returning the bits asap... the material was too pricey for a starter.

Anywhoooo I like where Pred has mounted his tweeters so I'm looking to put them there. However how do I mount them and get them to glue on? Do I drill the holes wil lots of little holes and push the plastic out like the guy did in the guide? and then glue it down with a hot glue gun?

Also with the crossover what is the best way to mount it to the doorcard? I have some spray adhesive but that wouldn't hold it surely?

Thanks for any help. :y:

good stuff mate

for the tweeters they will come with mounting cups. the manual should tell you basically how to attach them

all i did was mount them with a screw and speed clip, and also drilled a bigger hole to get the wire through

for the crossover the cover should come off to reveal a few mounting holes line it up and then mark where to dril lthen just screw them in place and also holes for wiring :y:

No manual in the box dude :(

If I was to just mount them onto the card they'd stick out too far.. this guy did it by drilling and glueing I would guess :ponder: although wouldn't they rattle?

I've been pulling at the crossover for quite a bit and other than getting bloodblisters it won't come apart. I got a hell of alot in the box; some bits I have no doubt won't be used.

I would get a screwdriver and try and ram it up.. but then it could snap... and hopefully I have more patience then that :y:

I got a role of black like liquorice that is sticky... I have no idea what thats for. The screws for the speaker I understand...
I also got round metal pieces with spikes around the rim.
Two circular foam disks with holes in-that are adhesive (Size of tweeter inside cup)
Bolts for the tweeter however bolting it on would make it stick out an inch from the doorcard. I'd rather it sat flush like the pics above.

a bit confused

yeah you do get some sticky pads, to stick them on with but tbh they dont work that good on the surface of saxo doorcards, numberplate pads may work though

my tweeters have an angled cup and they are just screwed on, they stick out about an inch but im not bothered (ill be making pods as soon as i get desire doorcards)

thaover should come off that crossover as you can see the mounting holes underneath, use a small flathead screwdriver and lever it off, dont worry about snapping it mine felt it was going to but they do come off

the foam bit will be to mount on the door hole and then you mount the speaker onto that, stops vibrations

not sure about the spikey things though lol, got any pics??

I knew they'd stump you:

http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k298/smileynum1/My%20cars/S7301105.jpg

Well I got the front cover off... it came off side ways lol thanks for that :A:

So I'll drill some holes for the tweeters so that they sit flush at the top of the card, I'll put some super glue around the rim of the lip (sticks out around 5mm) and glue them down... would that be ok? (i know I'm being a numpty about all this) :p

Predator_R32
6th March 2008, 21:46
hmm it might be but if your going to do that you may as well use some sealent to stick them on

them look to be for the tweeter mate, you sure you didnt get any manuals or pieces of p on how to attach things

Yep only a receit in the box :n:

I'm working on it atm. I'll show the pics here and in my progress when I'm done. If I don't like them sticking out (they get knocked etc.) I'll let them sit flush but they look ok atm... I owe you 3 rep points now still need to spread the love dude :( I keep repping people but i still need to spread the love  you'll get it one day. I'll get you a pint at FCS if you're going :A:
