hello there. still havent got the problem sorted with my VTR Y Reg. I have a knock still that feels like it is hitting the underside of the car happens when driving along bumpy roads or going over bumps etc. It is not neccessarily loud but sounds like it hits reasonably hard. You can feel it in ya feet. Have checked under the car for exhaust rubbers and any looseness at anything but cannot see the problem. I have been told it may be my anti roll bar drop links. is this true? because to my knowledge this would only make a very quiet knock. If this is the problem how much would they cost fitted? Thanks in advance everyone
Chris

The best thing to do to find the cause of the knocking is to jack up the car and take the front wheels off so you can have a good look around.

If theres any grease or oil check where its coming from. Main areas to check is:

Both rubber bits on the drop links where the ball joints are housed

The rubber ball joint on the track rod end

Rubber bit on the wishbone ball joint (goes into the bottom of the strut)

And your CV joint on the driveshaft.

If any of these rubbers have a split in them then that needs changing and should cure the problem

SOunds like my problem mate. People told me it could be the anti-roll bar bushes. However mine turned out to be the wishbone bushes that were split. I would have a look at them matey. If you check driveshafts amd drop links as Willsy has said above

how much would this cost then if it were to be that. am i looking at an expensive job. It sounds sort of a clunk lyk you can feel something hitting the underside of the car. it feels like whatever is hitting it is from the front passenger side and sometimes it feels like it hits quite hard? im mainly wondering if anyone knows any prices aswell because i am tempted to just take it to the garage and get them to look. i have jacked it up a number of times (with wheels on) and cannot see any play in anything.
thanks

You need to take the wheels off and have a good look at the rubber joints, one of them will be split somewhere.

If its a track rod end theyre about £20 each give or take a little depending on where you get it.

Droplinks PM jpsaxo as he can get uprated ones for £32 per pair

Then the wishbone ones are a similar price to the track rod ends. They may need removing with a specialist tool though. (havnt replaced one of these myself to find out)

ok thanks alot mate will rep you now aswell.
only problem is where are all these parts. I have no idea about cars im just hoping it is something as simple as you say. its nothing to do with turning the wheel so hope so.

willsy those are the next 2 things im going to try on mine! i have had new wishbones which include ball joints an bushes and have replaced both driveshafts and i still get a terrible clunking noise over bumps! :(
