I think mine need replacing. Is often hard to get into first and sometimes second. Everything else is fine.
Was thinking about getting the Xsport ones, as they are steel-ended. How much would it cost for a garage to fit these for me...?

Yeah? Is there a guide anywhere or is it just common sense?

It's just common sense really to be honest.
Once you've gor your car in the air, you'll see three rods behind the engine going from the centre of the car , along to the gearbox, they are the linkages.
I bought some of those 'uprated' gear linkages, and I found them a nighmare to get on, and ended up bending two trying to pry them on, so I just went back to standard.
IMO the standard ones are fine, I've never had one 'pop' off. Might only be worth it if you pretty viscious with the gear changes.

Sounds more like the actual gearbox that's a problem, as opposed to the gear linkages.

It's ever since I had the GE quickshift fitted... I remember someone saying they uprated the linkages and that eliminated the problem...

is there any thing restricting the linkages when you put it into first?
best bet is to get someone to change gear when your under the car so you can see whats going on.
did you move the wiring loom out of the way when you fitted the quickshift?
