My car has developed a steering wheel wobble at over 40mph, i have checked the wheels and they are all balanced up properly.
Any ideas with what it is?
Starting to annoy me now.
Rep given.

have you checked your tyre pressures?
or any loose wheel nuts?
I had a problem with wobbling but that was over 90mph on motorways, turns out mine was balancing, sorted it after new tyres were on.

I would stay wheel bearings myself. I had this problem. Had the bearings done and its fine

how much are the wheel bearings and can they be done by myself or is it a garage jobby?

Tracking, balancing, tyre pressures.
Try swoping the front & rear wheels to see if you still have the problem!

would the tracking really cause this problem?

to do wheel bearings yourself, you will need a press.

do you definately need a press or can you just use brute force and some gentle persuasion??

i havent checked tyres to be honest with you, bloody hope not as iv only just put on 2 new avons.
if i take the wheels off and had a look at the suspension legs how would i be able to tell if the bearings have gone? Would the suspension leg have movement in it??

If you spin the wheel you will hear a whirring noise or there will be ply in the wheel if you push it about, like top and bottom and side to side. Had to test this on a lotus last night.

ok cheers steve, just been out and also noticed that there is a slight knocking noise from the inside which also occurs when the steering wheel wobbles.

Unless you have a press then I would leave it to a garage. Will cost around £50-£60 to get a bearing replaced

hi mate, im 110% certain its your track rod ends.. i think you will find they have play in them. You wont notice it at all until you get upto speed. try driving down a hill at 40 and applying the brakes firmly, you should get more of a wobble through the steering wheel. hope this helps
