Anyone work in one?

As im a student working part time is the only option for me, which doesn't leave a lot of options open.. lol

Getting pretty bored of retail its the same old shit day in day out, think of working in a call centre, I have the customer service experience to back me up and there is massive amounts of vacancys in leeds, first direct, hsbc, abbey, british gas.. the list goes on.

What should I expect, is it a laugh, relaxed, laid back???

looking to work 2-3 days a week also, is this possible??

Cheers people

for 6.75 an hour to surf the net I wouldn't moan, beats stocking shelfs and standing around on a till saying the same sentance.

Just not many options part time, do people chat a lot, have a laugh in the centre etc??

thats what makes a job good

i work in a call centre (acer repair centre) and i hate it. just stress all day from customer who want to shout at you etc.
But to be fair i do prefure this than working in the co-op like i used to.

I used to work for a 3rd party call centre for Sky. Hated every min of it! Targets to hit all the time, one day off n there goes all your hard earned commission, same thing day in day out. Don't advise anyone to even consider it after i'd worked it one

only good side is a sit inbetween 3 hot girls :)

the job is a dead end job (great if you want to sit in a chair for the rest of ur life on 6.75 an hour

they are getting rid of people left right and centre

people do chat and laugh yea

I used to work in a call centre. Couldnt take it anymore. 1 day I walked in, realised how shit my life was in that place, handed over my security pass and walked out lol. Best move i have ever made in my life. However, as for you Dan, it is probably ideal if you are a student lookin for part time work as you usually find that the pay is quite good.

My mate works in a call centre and they have to push the special offer to every customer and when they sell one they have to get up and ring the bell in the centre of the office and everyone cheers......imagine that 20 times a day.....

I would seriously massacre the whole place after a week.....

Ask for a key for the coffee machine so its free.....

Thats a dealbreaker tbh, I could cope with £2.87 an hour but paying a hours wage for one coffee....not worth it....Budget Dan Budget

I worked in a outgoing call centre making cold calls. i.e. Window sales.

Only worked there a month as it was a stop gap between 2 jobs but i loved it. Was decent pay if you were good at it. Only thing is it does get demoralising as you are constantley given shit.

Inbound in good as they are calling you. Although the public are all bastards.

dont know what his base salery is but he got a 2k pay rise couse he met a certain amount of sales and hes on 18k now at 17 still which isnt bad. also if he gets to certain amount of sales then he gets to go home lol.

hes gonna go into car sales after a year, meant o be ok money. :)

I used to work in a call centre, it was phoning up people off the system and asking them questionnaires on behalf of the UK's largest companies.

Was a good laugh, paid well too. I worked about 8 hours a week, just 2 days after college and made £140+ a week. But I didn't get on with my supervisor as he was some kind of 'gansta' wannabe.

Good job if your at college though. Theres one for RBS that pays £8.50ph :)

Jobs as good as you make it i work on sales for virgin and its a good laugh just have a bit of banter with the customers when your on the phone and the people on your team when your off. Fill in the gaps messing around on the internet. Infact its got to be one of the easiest jobs out there
Basic pays not much about 12k but with commision about £300 a month its not bad. Makes a big difference what your team leaders are like but mine have all been sound one of them even used to come to the pub with me at lunch for a drink.

And as mentioned plenty of fit lasses about aswel :y:

I work in a call centre, have done since march last year, before this i was in retail for 5 years.
I would choose this over shop work anyday. It can be abit boring at times but money isn't bad and i work for a good company which is a bonus.
Guess it all depends what company and department you go into. my job is quite varied at the minute and we don't really get any crap about hitting targets etc.
Wouldn't want to do it permanently but for the minute it suits me! :)

when i was at college i worked pat time with anglian windows only 9 hours a week choose my own hours evry1 kept leaving after a couple weeks because they could hack it. i stuck at it for nealry 2 years and towards the end i was on warm data which really easy basicaly people who had a quote before and u say you can lower it. and you get ur commison so i was taking over 100 a week doing 9 hours but full time is a complete no no its plays with your head.

TBH, customer service IS selling....

I was a "Customer Advisor" at a well know high st bank with targets outta my ears.....

Same applies in call centres. I get well annyed when I have to ring HSBC and they try and sell me something, and all I wanted to do is cancel a direct debit or something!

depends on what department you get onto, i used to be on the iphone activation team but im currently in training to move onto O2 Broadband, there is a few weeks training to do which can be boring but stick it through and its well worth it mate, the atmosphere at work is great, everyones always having a laugh and if you do well theres a decent opportunity to get promoted to something higher with a better wage grade.

the work can be a pain sometimes especially when youve had a few bad calls and you just wanna tell em to f*** off but you have good days too.

overall its much better than retail IMO cos at the end of the day youre sat talking in front of a PC getting paid, dont have to wear a daft uniform and its pretty chilled out.

i couldnt do it full time though.

hope that helps and good luck.

think i will be applying

thansk mate
