I don't know what apprenticeship to do but i would like to do one as i love practical things and tinkering with my car but i was thinking of mechanics although i think it will be too difficult for me (Emma) to do it :err:

Have you ever had any previous experience or worked on cars?
I have only worked on mine (e.g. induction kit, alloys, back box, rocker cover - little things)

sounds like i know as much as you then! My mates dad owns a garage and thats where ive gone when my cars broke, as he does it for free (still pay him though jus not LOADS)
done other minor stuff like, fitting and removing suspension springs, replacing the shock inside, so that includes taking the strut off, and changing the front pipe on me car.
oh and changing brake pads:afro: lol

Advanced Apprenticeship including City & Guilds NVQ level 3

You'll have a minimum of 3 GCSE passes at grade D or above in any subjects (or equivalent qualifications). The 3 year apprenticeship training will be delivered both in the work place and by block training to the dealership specialist training centre. You'll learn the repair and maintenance of all aspects of the dealership motor vehicles to include measurement and tooling, information systems, product knowledge, electrical and engine principles, steering and fuelling principles, transmission principles and braking systems, suspension, fuel and body systems.
not quite sure, think it will be college type learning included but not at a college if you know what i mean? thats i think anyway from reading that lol.

28th February 2008, 20:10
As far as I know the assessment is just to see what level key skills you should take. I already have done one assessment for an IT apprenticeship (company was crap) I achieved level 3 and the course was only for level 2.
steve_335
28th February 2008, 20:12
Sounds like my key skills at college, it's in maths, english and it, if you got above a C you don't have to do it and it varies depending how you do on tests you have to take and if you got a grade for it at gcse.

28th February 2008, 20:13
yea i had to take ict becuase my school didnt even offer it lol its piss easy though :)
Emma_ZS
28th February 2008, 20:17
So am i right in saying . . . if you passed (e.g) maths at GCSE you don't have to do it as a key skill at college.

Good luck with it !!! You'll be fine, and if you get it, you'll enjoy it !!
My brother is an apprentice for Porsche, he loves it !! Specially sitting in on 'fault finding' outtings in the Porsches !lol
At the start they made him just change tyres a lot, but now he gets to work on the cars unsupervised - it's all about working your way up, and gaining the respect of your manager and to show him you can do the work to a good standard !

i guess il get the pethetic jobs to start with.
I have one problem though, i applied for an aprenticeship with E-on the elctric company, theyre yet to get back to me, but if they accept me, hopefully il get enough time before i start. That way i can find out if i get the mechanics course.
which would u lot choose between them 2? e-on climbing poles and on the electrical distribution or a mechanic for honda?
