Jordan (the cyclist) was a good friend of my brother and his mum is good friends with my mum. It was such a shock when we got the phone call explaining what had happened, it always seem to happen to other people and you don't expect it to happen so close to home.
RIP Jordan!

Yeah, we live in the same village as he did, Netley Abbey. My brother had known him most of his life, my mum had known him and the family for ages as well.

I'd rather not say to be honest, as i know him i can't really judge that as obviously i am biased to the side of Jordan. He was a genuinely nice guy though.
Both sides were in the wrong though, she was texting and speeding but he did jump a red light.

well dude i reckon texting is worser than taking a call as with a text message u gotta have ur mind into the phone to get the write letters up but when ur on the fone your talking and looking ahead but both are dangerous and ppl should learn from it

Do't mean this in offence to you or anything adam but it works both ways,
If she wasn't texting then he might not be dead
If he didn't run a red light he might not be dead
I think the centance is fair because she was doing 45 in a 30 whilst texting yes and she has killed an innocent teenager

From what i heard no helmet or lights either, but i may be wrong..
If she was doing say 30-35mph, i'd have a totally different view and be more incined to, as heartless as it is, say it was the cyclists fault..
But as is, with speed taken into consideration, she was certainly i nthe wrong to an extent!

Under the ruling, the maximum sentence for causing death by dangerous driving rises from 10 to 14 years. Prison sentences for dangerous driving have also risen from two to five
Taken from here:

IMO i believe that the sentence she received was spot on, it could have been alot more.
People who still continue to flaunt the law in this way obviously have no care or regard for other road users and an example should be made of those that do so.
It doesnt really make a blind bit of difference of whether the cyclist ran a red light, if she had been aware of the situation ahead, driven at the correct speed etc i doubt it would have happened.
Afterall these are some of the things that are covered in the Hazard Perception part of your theory test- if you cant pass that then you're not fit to drive.
