Hello! I've had a DVD headunit for a while now but havn't fitted it because the headunit doesn't have RCA outputs.
Allthough, the headunit has LOTS of leads so I can plug the RCA leads into spare right and left speaker leads. This works but as its wired as a normal speaker it doesnt just play Bass, which im geussin will damage it.
What i'm wondering is, would it work if I wired it up as a speaker but before the speaker wires go into the sub I connect from the amp to a crossover box then into the sub, so it just plays bass?
If ya understand lol.
I don't see why it wouldn't work, but now i'm wondering if a crossover box will take 1200W.
I really hope you understand what I mean :y:

Well, my sub works fine with my other headunit so I'm not gonna change the amp settings. But I don't know what settings I have on my headunit. I didn't think I'd be able to change the setting on that one speaker to just play bass as its set up as a normal speaker at the headunit.
Would the crossover idea work?
Thanks for help!

haha i'll try.
I can wire it up like a normal speaker. But then it will act like a speaker and not just play bass.
If I connect the sub to the amp but go through a crossover box. using the woofer terminals. Would that work so it just plays the bass. Or could I break the crossover box by puting 1200W through it?
Thanks:y:

Basically, wire it like a component but without the tweeter.

so you have a sub and coaxial speakers, list the speakers and amp you have got then i can work it out

Right I have done an expertly drawn picture to help me explain lol

If I wire my sub as in picture1, the sub plays vocals as a normal speaker because I have no RCA outputs on my headunit. so I have to wire it to spare speaker outputs(i have lots of spares).
As I only want the sub to play Bass can I wire it as in picture 2, using a crossover box and using the "woofer" terminals on the crossover box, so it only plays bass.
Hope that makes sence:)

no mate just run the sub off the amp and change the settings, try the filter on the amp
the crossovers are more used for components, you got some decent components??

Yea I got some good components, they are 320W kenwood. I've got a kenwood amp ready for them but will wait to amp them as im prob gonna get a vtr in about a month.
My sub is kenwood aswell lol but thats powerd by a legacy amp.
Thanks for the help. I will fit it again tomorrow and see what I can do:y:

If u put the crossover before the amp that would work but u would have to split the rca but if you did it properly it would b fine
