Hi guys.....

I have been asked to send someone a product recovery CD, as my friend has the same laptop as me and needs to reformat the hard drive, but this guy needs to do it tonight, so I was thinking I could sort it over the 'net...

Basically I want to upload roughly 1.2 GB of info onto a storage website of some sort, and then email my friend the URL, so he can retrieve the info and make his own product recovery CD.

Is this possible? Can anyone suggest a website I can use for this? Free service if poss...

Rep available for the best solutions...!!;) ;)

Yes in theory its possible.

However - two major downsides.

Even if you both have broadband, take an average speed of 300kb/s, it'll take over an hour to upload. Then an hour to download at the other end. Then burn to CD at the other end.

Most hosting places will NOT allow you to upload copyrighted programs such as Windows etc.

I'm sure i saw something on Hotmail advertising that they are allowing 5Gb of space to host files.

Cheers for that.

Anyone else got any ideas?

hmm it is possible! i know for a fact. If you have webspace do it that way... ;)

or...
free service there is a few out there. try a search in google type in something like 'free file hosting' etc..
size that big he'l either have to wait til u copy him a cd, or you send yours etc as its is rather large!
I know there might be a way of using torrents and he can download through ur PC but thats complicated. MSN sharing folder? take you 5 years though..
try splitting the files up to 2- 4 parts? quicker downloads

google mail let you do attachments of a few gig IIRC. that might be an option but it'll still take you a while uploading and downloading.

Yeah its simple,

Get win rar and archive it in to files less than 100meg and upload to rapid share?

get the guy at the other end to download them and extract them
