Weird Gearbox Problem.

My car was running fine untill last night... I went to pull away and it felt like I was in third, went to change gear and evrything is just loose.
I can't get it into reverse/doesnt seem to be one anymore, what should be reverse it trys to pull forwards, lots of rattleing about and movement with the gearstick. Can't see any loose gear linkages though.

Anyone any ideas please!

How old is the car? gearbox the original? Had a new one fitted? Maybe the teeth have worn down on the gearobx, making it harder to change gear

sounds like the linkage causing a selection problem- something is lose- hmm but i dont know what to look for. I wonder if everything i shifted sideways a bit- if the 'reverse' is pulling forwards then maybe this is 4th- try the one to the left of that where forth would be- if you get second then it would at least tally with that theory.

The car is a 51 plate but 2002, and orignal gearbox as far as I know.

rigggght, i could't test it properly, but was able to get it into all 6 positions, and pulled forwards in all of them...
