Well last night i was lucky enough to have my car broken into and my stereo along with every cd and a bag of clothes taken.

I've just tried removing the door pins and it seems it wasn't as simple as the guide explains.

I've taken the door cards out, slit the sound proofing material and disconnected a white plastic connecting piece (oval shaped) which partly held the door pin in.

The pin still doesn't come free and now every time i press the central locking button on the key fob it doesn't even lock the door. I put the white bit back on but somethings obviously gone wrong and now everytime i press the button (with the door card back on) the pin just bounces up and down. It doesn't actually lock the door anymore.

I'm going to have to get an alarm fitted in the next week even though i'm absolutely skint but i thought this de-pinning was a simple job which also helped security... Well as it stands all i've done is stopped the central locking work on the door that was broken into.

I don't mean to sound ignorant and i apologize if i do, but as you can imagine i'm rather pissed off at the moment (to say the least) as its goign to cost me a lot of money in the long run which really i don't have, and when i do have it it should be going towards other things.

Any help is appreciated, at the moment like i said the central locking doesn't even lock the door on that side.

Thanks.

2001 and newer models are fixed, my early mk2 they unclipped as per the guide, not so on newer mk2s, tried on my 2002 and it's impossible, apparently you have to cut them off :S

Basically at the moment it seems if the pins not going to be there it isn't even going to lock the door. The white attaching part i took off was attached directly to the door pin and therefore even without it on, i can't understand why the door doesn't lock.

Mines a 51 plate, so not really an early mk2....

If anyone has any reccomendations on good value alarm systems that would also be appreciated.

sorry to hear about your bad luck.

just snipping them off might act as a deterrent to thieves and also maybe a blinking LED in your dash until you can get an alarm. although it seems a bit late to do that now as the damage has already been done.

for my 99 model all i had to do was feel inside the door for the metal wire running from the door pin to the lock mechanism, and push the cable near the point where it met the lock towards the exterior skin of the door and it clipped out, then just withdrew it from the hole in the top of the card. give that a go!
