Bad news for us

The price of a pint of beer will increase by 4p, a bottle of wine by 14p and a bottle of spirits by 55p in some of the biggest alcohol duty rises in history

Revenue from plane fuel duty is expected to increase by 10 per cent, while measures will be taken to tackle high-polluting cars with a new car show room tax.

There also appeared to be a reprieve for controversial plans to introduce road taxes. And as expected, the Chancellor delayed the 2p fuel duty rise due in April until October, although separately duty will increase by half pence a litre in real terms from 2010
