I passed my test yesteday (first time and only 6 minors, how chuffed am i?)

I took my blue baby out for a driver as i had loads of things to do and thought it would be quicker in the car!!!!

And i know I have to get use to my car after only using the instructors!!!
But I lost count of how many times i stalled it!

It feels very sluggish when you start her up and the temp runs high, it wold stall almost any where.

I got my other half to drive it just to check that it wasnt me!!! He said the same very sluggish and it felt like it was only firing on 3 cylinders. It wold get to 3rpms and there would be a noise that would be in the exhaust!!!!!

I have recently have a lot of work done on it so it would pass it's MOT ready for me to use. 2 weeks ago when my other half was using it it was ok, but it hasnt been used since.

I dont like driving it at the moment but need to at the same time!!!

Please help me

Thanx

Hmm, maybe a sensor or something?

Might need to run it in a bit if its not been used much. Could always whack it in for a service, explain the problem before it too, they should find it me thinks!

Hope thats some help and you get it sorted soon.
Nice one on passing your test too:y:

My old pug 106 was left standing for a week or so, and when i drive it that too refused to rev, felt really sluggish and did run on 3 cylinders too, seemed better when warmed up but it wasn't right. Replaced the Plug leads and spark plugs and hey presto it was back to its former glory! For some reason, perhaps damp got into the leads where it had been sitting in the wet for a week or 2. German and swedish are very well priced for those sort of things, it was about £16 for the leads compared to dealer around £35. Plugs at G+S were about £1.50each. May be worth a try for the sake of £20 or so if nothing else seems wrong.

Oh and that noise is probably the mis-firing as the fuel isn't getting burnt in the 4th cylinder if its only running on 3. Can knacker up the Lambda sensor so people tell me,

it can as you arent burning all the fuel in the non firing 4th cylinder.
cat and neat fuel dont go:oops:

start with cheap things first, replace spark plugs see if that does any good,

Thanks everyone, It has just had nearly a complete engine rebuilt, new sparks and plugs were put on it just before xmas, was working fine 2 weeks ago, but then sat idle whilst i waited to pass my test!

I but some redex in the fuel yesterday to see if that helps, but can I ask what the Lambda sensor and where it is, I will get my mech to do all the work but at least i know what he is talking about!!!

The lambda sensor or oxygen sensor reads the exhaust gases & sends a signal to the ECU.Depending on the age age of the car there might be 1 or 2 sensors which can be found either on the downpipe or on the heat shield which covers the manifold. The sensor/s looks a bit like a big spark plug(for want of a better word) & has wires coming out from the top of it.

Steve(some one might give a better explaination than me LOL.)

Get your mechanic to plug a diagnostic tool in first. If the lambda (oxygen) sensor or any other sensors are faulty then they should show on the diagostic.
Having said that I had a Punto which had a flat spot when warmed up. Mechanic told me no fault codes were shown and blamed poor acceleration on collapsed catalytic converter. I took it off and could see straight through.
I had a lambda sensor from a car in scrappy which appeared new and put it on - problem solved!!

Does your problem occur when engine is warm??
Lambda sensors are not in operation until engine has been warmed up to a certain temperature.
