Okey dokes, some of you may know that earlier in the week some slack bint drove into the back of me! At the moment I'm just waiting for the repairers to collect my car, but this unfortunate event has got me thinking.
Whatever happens I want to keep my saxo, weather it's repaired or written off (I would hopefully buy it back) but I have decided to bring the purchase of a new car forward ( I was originally looking at buying another car in the summer) and just use the saxo for track days and shows
I have decided to rule out a VX220 as I can't find a decent one at a good price, so a sebnsible car it is!
The nominees so far are:
Vauxhall Astra G GSi
Ford Focus RS
Mitsi Evo 6
Escort Cosworth
I have 11k MAX to play with which includes 2 years financing so any other ideas would be welcome.
Fire away homies..............

i would pick the evo, running close behind the RS
JEEMO

I like the Astra or the FRS idea, maybe a vectra vxr? dunno how much one of those costs
Danr
15th March 2008, 11:44
I wouldn't go for the escort, you want to pay top dollar and get a minter which you might not do for 11k.
I'd go for the astra out of the selction you have posted. They just look really good and i don't see many about at all.
You could possibly get an r32 for that money as well!

Focus RS all the way

Astra is still top of my list - and you can get them for between 7-9k which would leave a few pennies for Courtenay to do their shizz!
Would still ilke an Escos, as I only do about 5k miles a year max but as you say minters are upwards of 16k!

Krys_23

Astra GSi Turbo all the way.. escort cossies are old and still expensive, mate has an evo 6 and its been nothing but unreliable, Astra is still reliable and has plenty of power to play with and has optional traction :)

So far top of the list is the VX, then I'm swaying more toward the RS Focus, simply because they seem to be having a slump inpurchase price at the moment, my milage will be low and I reckon in 5 years time they will start to appreciate like the Escos did

thats what i was thinking, rs ftw. for the cash you have you will get a v good example. plus there will always be great a resale value. insurance is alot cheaper than you would think aswell:P . plus the astra gsi can get very thirsty when tuned. cosworth you would have to have abit more cash imo. evo £££££
Saxotim
15th March 2008, 18:39
focus RS. imo. :P
Jazz
15th March 2008, 18:42
Focus RS are limited in numbers, fun cars and will be worth a few bob in their old days, just like the Escort Cossie. Like the Escort but silly money these days for what it is.

15th March 2008, 19:12
Focus RS or Astra GSi for me.
Don't bother the VX again, been there done it ;)

ford mondeo?
Looked at the ST220 and really like them. Would be well worth me considering now you mention it. They also do an ST TDi with a stooooopid amount of torque!
Robb - happened earlier this week. Should hopefully be fixed up again soon

Get a Mondeo ST TDCi then Craig - you'll love it. 2.2 Turbo Diesel with 150bhp.
Can pick a low mileage one up for cheap.

Pretty much, and a main weekend car that the kids WON'T eat or drink in!
Will be using tara's car most days for work though as she is literally just around the corner from me!
Really only want to use the saxo for meets/shows/track days etc
StuMartin
15th March 2008, 21:57

Are you going to leave the Saxo insured as it is yeah?
Just thinking other possibilties - I'd pick the ST TDCi Mondeo everytime as I'm addicted to diesel and MPG (God, help me!) but I can see either the Focus or Astra been very thirsty. I know from experience, the Focus is VERY thirsty. I think Darran who Mike bought his ZS from gets 200 miles for £55.

Mondeo ST TDCi.
N eighbour has one and I love it.
155 Brake and loads of Torque..
Apparently they're Bi-Turbo or something too, so you don't get any lag?

Will have to look into that. I thought they was 150 brake, but I seem to remember something about 155 brake now.
Really wish I looked at one....

Wouldn't be that bothered about how thirsty it is because I would only be doing about 100 miles a week tops.
Saxo would still beinsured so I can use it as and when, but I would be careful when I tax it;)
If I decided on a mondervo I would def invest in a bluefin to see 180bhp and 270 lb'ft of torque
