Got a netgear wireless PCI card, bt home hub is one room away, asus wireless switch is 5 rooms away and wired to the bt home hub.
Why do i always get really shit reception on the bt home hub? It cuts out all the time, i get better reception with the asus switch which is miles away, but that too keeps cutting out. I can't even use the internet properly half the time, when i post a thread it just cuts out and takes 5 mins to connect to either of the wireless devices.
Any advice on improving my wireless reception? Other than to buy a decent pci card or router? lol

cant be the reception unless you're in a padded, lead-lined room....
never know.
Secondly... I always found that with the netgear mumbo bumbo that if you didnt use the manufacturers drivers that all hell would break loose - some prefer to use the Windows system (like me)
which are you using man?

I am probably in a lead lined room, shows only one bar of reception for the home hub and one to two for the asus, it can sometimes show almost full reception for the bt one then it drops to 1 or cuts out all together. I am approx 3m from the home hub.
It worked fine when i first got the card, used to swear by wired connection but redecorating i thought fuck it might as well go wireless. The home hub used to be right next to my door, no probs then with full reception. Now it's 1-2m further away around the corner and it's fucked.
Installed the netgear software and drivers as per instructions, but for some reason windows insists on configuring the wireless. how do i fuck it off? disable the wireless zero config service?

bt homehub is gash unless wired connection. Simple. Fact of life. full stop.
we had that and my connection kept cutting out. in the end got frustrated got a £40ish netgear router from pcworld. improved alot my connection times out maybe once per week.average but re connects soon after automatically.
Sometimes conneciton slows right down not happy with bt's service tbh. even thought there are about 7-12 other routers in my area from wireless receiver picking up.
Nothing beats from (my experience) tiscali service 4years ago. was perfect! now i can't play FPS games without lagging out and glitching like on watchdog security tapes!
anyhow! step 1, change service provider
step 2, buy better router
or step 3 wire up your connection.
