A windows pc wont get viruses or spyware if looked after properly, i think its pretty much down to what you are wanting to use it for, correct me if wrong but i think on thw whole windows are more compatable with programs etc.

Windows for Games
Mac's for everything else
Depends all on what he uses it for. And Macs are safer than Windows PC due to Windoes being easier to access so people will try and hack them.

I am also looking at getting a macbook i think. Been wanting a laptop for ages but i know vista isnt great and i like editing videos and pictures alot thats all i use a pc for aswell as internet so a macbook seems like a good idea.
Also there is amazing software available for it such as final cut pro 6.
Got one at work im looking at its the black version, i think its the old one with only a 2.0ghz and 1gb ram and the superdrive. They are pretty expensive even the old ones and they dont drop in price which is a pain!

Whats Q??
Mystic
25th March 2008, 09:02
Lets you run different operating systems in parrallel.
You open Q and boot windows, then you can full screen Q and it will be asthough you are working in windows (or linux or what ever other OS you wanna use) Theres anoither version called Parallels i think, never used it though.
Failing that as the eagle eyed chaps might have noticed, i have a "Windows HD" on my desktop because im still using Bootcamp too. As far as im aware though Q runs just as quickly as bootcamp. I've yet to be bothered to actully do a speed test between the 2 though because in my mind Bootcamp has to run quicker. It comes with the disadvantage that you need to partition your HDD and shutdown OSX and reboot in Windows.. Much slower than Q which allows both to run simultaneously!

Ahhh i see. Im thinking of getting a mac laptop and still keeping my normal PC running windows. Not that i would need it as i dont use many programs and the ones i do use can be used on mac aswell. So might even run osx on my main pc and then bootcamp it with windows just incase i really need it.

Q is one of the best dual booters out there as mentioned you dont actually have to boot your PC in duel mode, you can load as normal and then just load Q and start up a windows amchine whilst still using your normal mac OS, very good imo, but i don't use any boot software as i have enough PC's around the house an a network drive so it's easy enough to grab windows files and go on a windows PC or visa versa, but if you need dual booting use Q, i used to use bootloader found it very slow tbh! VMWare Fusion though seams to be the fastest one from what ive heard! Do have a illegal download link sumwere so may just use that to see!

Have you ever used a mac? They're waaaaay better, I've been using macs for three years now and never had a problem, like NEVER, not even a hiccup.
PC's are alright for the first day then they turn to poop!
Oh if you cant do without windows use Q or Parallels and you can run osx and windows at the SAME time! Can you do that on a pc?... Didn't think so.
I'm done.

lol, these threads make me laugh.
Pro's
Mac: Pretty, use it for just veiwing chatting emailing etc and i'd say for the odd 'simple' design program. i.e photoshp etc
PC: compatible with most programs, your familiar with it. You can still have the same pretty things as the mac. Is just as safe as Mac, if you look after it. (afterall microsoft wudnt be this good now)
Beats mac's hands down for games.
Upgrades are cheap and pretty much DIY.
Cons
Macs: Its just a trend thing, can't u see on here, one says i got this mac it looks cool and swish, so next person buys it because the other is ravign about it because others don't have it.
Upgrading and repairing is insanely expensive. Also with taking it to usual PC doctors it will cost u more to fix than ti wud with a PC.
Can't buy as many games as u can with the PC.
PC: Everyone has them.
More targeted for viruses etc adaware.
IMO: I have both well 2 macs 2 pcs, tbh, my mac only gets used for some audio syuff thats only a program that pc doens't have because its made by apple. my pc desktop looks like a mac, and my pc is stable and runs better than a mac. I've crashed my mac as many times as my pc. so for me no change. all i see is a hgihe rprice tag because your paying for a fashion brand name. everybody wants an Apple!
I don't hate macs, but i don't love them either. if i had to choose a £300 PC to a £600 mac. I'd buy the pc. i'd have the mac, sell the mac use the extra £300 on upgrades or something else.
p.s how do you work out that audio and video is better than a pc? thats a joke! how do u know what audio and video a pc has? :S
and anyhow a simple machine from currys with about £50 u can out rate a mac's audio built in. and mac's built in audio are poor imo, sounds flat! and my speakers for my pc are only £50. Video... well depends on the graphics card you have!
decide at your will not on other's opinions. Remember that when it comes to upgrading. your mac will be worth NOTHING. where as your pc can be salvaged for spare parts. and other parts are useful to keep incase ur mate needs a chepa upgrade etc! u cna make some handy lil bring n buy profit!

Not sure which macs you are using but most mac now use the same CPU's as most PC's and as for upgrading it, there isnt as much of a reason to upgrade a mac as there is a PC. You upgrade a PC because it starts to run slow and shity where as Macs dont tend to slow down as much a PC would.
As for games i personally dont see any reason any one needs to play games on a PC or a mac tbh as there are machines built specifically to play games i.e PS3 and XBOX360. Pc' & Macs arent initially built to play games.
My personaly opinion is that the actually windows platform is poorly made and i dont think it is stable at all otherwise people couldnt be able to hack into them. People say well you should have internet security etc well if windows was built aswell as Mac/linux there wouldnt be the need to have it as it is much harder to hack. Im not saying its impossible but it is much much harder!!
But again that is just my personal opinion.

Oh no i totally agree with the games part, but some people can't always afford ps3's xbox etc... so thats why you have a pc for gaming... am right no yes?
Plus i'd rather play some games on my PC than on a PS3. vice versa!
your not entirely correct about macs don't slow down to as of a pc! its all how you use them.
Macs are made for designers end of. how they were orignally designed for. and to me im a designer and i can't justify them doing the part for it. all ive had is problems. drives not reading right, machine runs slow, crashes in 3d applications. (yes u get these with PC too, but if it goes wrong on a pc then its easily fixable i.e cheaper to repair)
This might always be down to simple luck with me. but in a deisgn course where in Uni every room we have is full of Macs, G5's , few lappys everything is top of the range and we all have problems not just me. doesn't justify them.
Any system is hackable. Windows is 'more' hackable due to the fact that more people on a ration use windows to a Mac. but ever more people increasing to mac will thus make fugures drop with windows and people start to hack macs... simple facts.
i haven't hacked into windows. a, cos i don't know same with mac.
at college i knew of a friend who could hack into all the macs within college. 4years ago. using his pc laptop he could change administrator properties as if it was his own. might be due to network security over the college. but still he cud get into it. (any computer within the nextwork well he showed me) besides the point... but...
i surpose its all down to personal experiences... im just showing my thoughts of what i think of ma vs windows. like i said i own mac and pc. just bought myself a new mac well jointly owned as i hardly use it only for audio programs only. all i would use it for.
For me im happy with windows, think vista is cool well it will be when its cheaper and updates are out. XP is awesome, my machine never gets attacked. i gett he odd cookie and adaware but my mahcine clears it up. runs smooth and its nothign of a huge spec than most people here have! does it for its needs :D

Well it may be down to network settings and security as to how your friend hacked in but macs are generally much harder to hack FACT as they are based on the first ever OS UNIX.
I can say i have owned a PC and always had problems, everyone i know has had problems with windows and my dad has been working with and on pc's for aslong as i can ever remember. I remember a machine running tape that he built. He wont use a windows machine all he uses is linux are network at home is based on linux. He fixes pcs with linux machines and we get alot of people coming to him with problems with there pc. I know a few people who have owned macs and never had a problem with them.
I cant say any of our linux or my mac has slowed down since we have had them and they get used everyday for all sorts of things. Where as my old pc use to get problems all the time being used.
Vista has way too many problems with it its too fancy. Windows keeps way too much running in the background which you dont need and slows everything down. It does everything such a long complicated way.
Im in no way saying Macs is the best os out there but i believe them to be much better than windows. Now i have used both i can say i dont think i will be going back.
Once you go MAC you dont go BACK.
I do agree that Macs are way over priced for what they are but they run better on much less. A 2.2 ghz mac will run faster than an equivalant pc.
Again its just my personal opinion and experience from myself and what i have seen and heard from my dad. My dad went to college and was fixing his teachers computers for them and they are the ones with degrees etc. He has been to a few big companies for interviews and have been solving there problems in the interview for them.

imo mac's are far more reliable in a studio than a PC. I find Protools a lot smoother on a mac than a PC and I dont ever have problem's with digidesign hardware like i do when using a PC.
Also if you want to use logic on a PC you are stuck on version 5. How uses the mac built in audio if they are serious about it?? No one......
The only good thing about windows is that plug-ins are cracked a lot faster.
