ok heres it in as much depth as possible-
i start my car cold and it idols at about 1.6k rpm (too high) eventually after the idol going up and down it will settle at 950rpm (too high)
sometimes ill be sat at traffic lights or whereever n suddenly the revs wll drop to 500 then shoot up to 2.5k and then setlle back at about 950 again.
also my engine isnt ticking over smoothly k heres an example a normal car ticks over like - ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
mine ticks over like 000o0ooo0o000000ooooooo00o0o0o00o00!!!!!!!!!!0o0o0 !!!!
coughing and splattering
whats the problem with it cos its not a good look really, makes my car sound like a right heap of shit
cheers boys (n gals)

Definition IDOL
i·dol (dl)
n.
a. An image used as an object of worship.
b. A false god.
c. One that is adored, often blindly or excessively.
d. Something visible but without substance.
"Idle" is the correct spelling ;)
Unfortunatly though like you have just realised there is a great long list of things which could be at fault, which costs enough for you to sort yourself, let alone pay a garage to have a field day replacing things!
If you can get hold of a diagnostics unit this might help to find the fault. Failing that i'd probaly start by carefully removing sensors from around the throttle body and checking for any obvious signs of wear/crap on them and where necessary arefully clean them.
Any sensor sending an incorrect reading back can have crazy effects on the engine due to the ECU trying to handle the information its being given as best as it can.

You need to get on a diagnostic machine first.
If any sensors are faulty, then they should show up and you can go from there.
Ring a few garages and ask them what they charge for a diagnostic test.
Preferably try ones which are Citroen orientated (smaller garages which work on mainly Citroens but aren't main dealers). Look in yellow pages under garage services and look for the Citroen badge.

try changing the temp sensor even if on diagnostic it says its ok, this was kind of what my car was doing revving itself and idle up and down and even accelerating a bit even though not pressing pedal, i had temp sensor changed and cleaned idle sensor now its fine.

Strange, hope you get it sorted mate.
My old 1.1 used to idle at just under 1k, then occasionally when sitting in traffic pops up to about 1.5k for no reason... but never affected the drive really.

Change the following, in no particular order.
IAC Valve.
Cool Temp Sensor.
AIT (Inlet air temp sensor).
Map Sensor.
A leak in the inlet system may account for this, but its unlikely.

If you head and see me, i'll swap them all out one by one for a small charge and diagnose the fault, then you only have to spend whats needed :)

I spent weeks trying to figure out the exact same problem with my 106. It got to the point where the car started to misfire quite badly, so this prompted me to check the TPS. I pulled out the connection to the TPS and squashed the pins down so it made a much tighter connection. Touch wood, the problem hasn't reoccured, and it's been nearly a couple of weeks now. :y:
I changed the IACv and the coolant tempertature sensor, neither made any difference.

yeh my car revs up and down when idle. Especially when the engine is hotter. Hasent got as bad as revving up yet, must be a problem in the design of the car if its quite common

mine does this now n again. About once a month, and it happended yesterday at 3 k revs lol. thought the throttle cable might have got stuck so lifted the bonnet n was all fine. Switched the car off and on n its fine!
On other occasion i start the car up n move off and as i changed gear with the clutch down the revs go up a lil bit but then drop!
And on the other occassion it dosent idle it just stalls :n: only happended once of each problem and only happens once a monthish lmao
