View Full Version : Should I be concerned?

Just got back from a 220 mile trek in the car (don't ask!! lol)

Anyway near to home I pulled up to a set of lights and started hearing this dodgy noise, I first thought I had a hole in the exhaust or something but anyway didn't think much to it and carried on, got home, pulled up and could still hear this noise, only when you're revving the car mind, just like a choking/air/bubbling/popping noise (rather loud) so I popped the bonnet had a look, can't pinpoint anything, seem to hear the noise most around the rocker cover area/oil filter area, checked the exhaust over the best I can without a ramp, doesn't seem to be any holes or air being let out but when I cover the tailpipe exit with my hand it doesn't get blown off? I can literally just hold my hand over it, normal or?

I honestly haven't got a clue, never heard this particular noise till today so obviously concerned..........

Any ideas?

(Had the cat replaced 3 weeks ago, stainless steel exhaust system put on in Jan this year for info if related to problem)

Apologies for the long post!!! :geek:

could just be the noise from the exhaust mate, mine pops and bangs all the time, it also kicks out foot long flames now and then.

yeah but this only started today, I've had it 3 months? I thought it was weird that the exhaust don't blow my hand off when I cover it but still, it doesn't sound as though it's coming from the exhaust......

by the way I checked the radiator water levels and that was up to the top, got a bit out but was still making this gay noise so can't be radiator related, and hopefully not headgasket related???

oil levels and all that were fine, so I'm starting to think their might be an issue with the cat seeing as the noise is around that area and that was the last thing fitted. Will have to get it checked over to find out, grrrrrrr

Nope, it ticks over lovely, only when revving it can you properly hear it

Did you say the noise is around the rocker cover area? get someone to give the car a slight rev & put your hand near the rocker cover(carefully as not to get burnt) & see if you can feel any air.I`m thinking along the lines that you might need to change the rocker cover seal as it`s leaking slightly & the pop noise could be oil escaping.

Yeah I know, I'll find out tomorrow for sure what the problem is. Anyone know where I can get a rocker cover on the cheap? going through Citroen would set me back quite a few notes I imagine.

Or would it be possible to even replace the seals/gaskets on the current one? and just repaint it.....hmmmmz!

Okay, had it checked over quickly, seems to be the gaskets in that cat converter or something have blown..... will take it to the garage I had it done, a 3 week old cat to have problems.............hmmmmmm

Car sounds worse today aswell, when I drive it I can hear the noise constantly.... not happy, raging quite frankly at the mo!!!! :(
