View Full Version : Driving too fast for road conditions?

Was driving home from work on a country road, it's a pretty nasty bit of road, in the pissing rain. Doing 60 in the wet with some knob tailgating me, resisted making them give chase, come over a crest leading to a very bad bit of road - broken tarmac, camber, steep downhill, several blind bends in a row and big vertical banks on each side, to see some mug in a polo driving up my side of the road, luckly i'd reduced my speed to 40 as i'm wise, to find an upside down fiesta in the middle of the road. I stop calmly with 5m to spare, mr tailgating mazda nearly ploughs into the back of me :wall:
Morals of the story?
Drive by road conditions not speed limits
Don't let other drivers idiocy affect your driving
Thank god for ABS and EBD :afro:
That is all.

i live up a country lane, and everyone speeds up it, when ever i see someone i ask why every answer is "well its a 60 limit".........just cos it says 60 doesnt mean you have to.
annoying

You were quite lucky :p last time i drove down a country lane, put my foot to the floor, slid the back end on sh1t on the road, and put my car up a mud bank, snapped the hub carrier =/

Nope he let off for 10 seconds or so, then got back to tailgating me, next straight i left him for dust with my mountain of torque, few corners later he was breathing my diesel fumes again :boxing:
I never turn the driver aids off, it's not a track car and i don't rape it around, so they are there if i need them, and not when i don't.

but if it was dry and mr mazda was up your arse 'whacks into second gear and floors it' lol i agree in the wet u cant hit a corner with any speed at all without the back or front end coming out. ive had a few near misses in the wet driving sensibly! its safe to be safe but all u need is another idiot that doesnt think like u, to come along and spank u from the side. if everyone followed the rules there'd be no crashes at all. (besides the stupid grey haired 80 year olds in there rover 25s) maybe the odd blonde woman :D

quite right mate. 60 is the LIMIT not the law! i drive on quite a scary road to work especially when its bad weather and you do have to take extra care and attention. i no ive moaned before about people being slow but this is on a normal day, everyday and one thing i never do is tailgate cus i no how it feels and i can understand that some people dont no the roads so well. but in bad weather, it is really hard to see the road sometimes, especially in the dark when another car is coming towards you and their lights blind you! it makes me nervous sometimes when people tailgate me cus i should be concentrating on the road yet i cant help looking in the rear view to see what the dude behind me is gonna do! anyway well done for not giving in to him and speeding up!

We live down a load of country lanes the other week it hadn't rained for ages untill that day when it had rained quite bad had just come out and said these roads are greasy won't be giving her death today, just as we go round the corner we watch a bmw fly into a ditch and land on its roof.
Helped the women get out and all she could say was 'i wasn't driving to fast i've come down her at this speed loads of times'
Always really carefull in the wet, especially now the eagle f1s aren't on.
No one round here thinks about road conditions
