how close to the floor will this hang
as ive got eibach 50mm springs on billy b8s
and the omp upper
am looking at the lower as its the 1 that really makes the differnce
but im unsured due to the height of my car

apparently they are quite prone to smacking the old bumps you can work it out by looking under your car and seeing where it would hang id imagine shed be pretty prone to it but should be ok depending what you drive over
AlexB

i dont have the car atm to check the height
as its in getting lowered
was hoping somebody may have a pic ect
hopefullt it should be ok
but there are a few speedbumps round my way

Get a sparco, it fits higher if that makes sense.

omp and lower 50mm and you will catch it on country lanes and some speed bumps

yea that would help si cheers
Get a sparco, it fits higher if that makes sense.
the sparco wont hang low enough to clear my manifold as ive got a 4-1 its quite a bit lower than a standard or a 4-2-1
omp and lower 50mm and you will catch it on country lanes and some speed bumps
yea so you think its a bad idea then
frankie
28th March 2008, 11:02
it rest's up against the manifold, when you hit it and makes the car sound crap.
but yu can dent it before putting on and hitting it.
AlexB
28th March 2008, 11:37
oh right so its not really the best idea then at all
Hopcraft
28th March 2008, 12:38
i wouldnt risk imo, they hang way too low for my liking.
..unless you live in MK where everything is flat, lol
AlexB
28th March 2008, 12:57
fair enuf i dont think i will then

So you can fit a Sparco but it sits tight against the fanifold?
Asking because im about to grab one as well and its between the two but i have a Supersprint SS 4-2-1 :)

To be brutally honest mate i think the huge majority of issues with strut braces catching on speedbumps is mainly down to the driver/driving.
If you take it slowly over bumps then there shouldnt be too excessive travel in the springs to get the bottom of the brace level with the bottom of the tyres to cause the rubbing.
Its only if you hit the bump hard enough to cause such travel that itll scrape.
In 2 years of my having a brace on mine it has never caught on a speedbump (OMP brace)
It will catch if:
You drive over a brick - done that one, not enough clearance there
And if you're driving over insanely uneven ground with major potholes there could be catching there (Mudtrack entering Paintball centre in Solihul for any West Mids members who also attended)

yea i herd that the sparco wont clear a mani like mine (a 4-1) as the mani is a lot lower under the sump as theres 4 pipes
so i need the omp as it will clear my mani but every1 says its gonna be a bit close to the floor on a 50mm drop
a 4-2-1 should be ok with a sparco as they dont hang as low being just the 2 pipes
and the sparco should be more clear on a lower car as they sit higher
how low are you?

haha seen the dent

haha seen the dent
yep brick beat me on that occasion. Made a nice little 'twang' as it went over it.
Honestly though, no issues on speedbumps that ive encountered. You'll have decent stiff shocks and springs on anyway so travel over bumps within the suspension should still prevent your bottom brace going near the level at the base of the wheels for it to scrape

OMP bottom brace is only £30ish from Strutbracer too, worth getting one anyway at that price and just seeing how it goes. Only 2 nuts to undo to fit it or take it off again.
:) you'll hate me for being so persuasive

yea its gonna be quite fun
should be a couple weeks till ive got enough movement to drive
and itll probly be that long till i get the vts back
i just want some last little bits for it now
ryhornvtr
28th March 2008, 23:38
TBH my sparco gets in the way of my standard manifold (vts), i want to go lower and get a mani so may consider the omp one. Will just have to sacrifice ground clearance.
AlexB
29th March 2008, 11:53
yea the sparco is a no go for me
i was just wondering how low the omp would hang
i might just get 1 and see what happens
if its too low
i can probly sell it

i had the same setup and had about 4 and a 1/2 inches of ground clearance, had no problems with speed bumps as i took em slow, it was raised grids that did me.
AlexB
29th March 2008, 12:09
that sounds like a fair bit of clearance
i herd it was more like 1 and a 1/2
and there are no raised grids by me
just a few speedbumps

Willsy and alex you are both leg-ends :p :y:
Take it slow man and you'll have no problems...
As Matt also said tho...better shocks and dampers will have a
huge impact on suspension travel and feel in the first place
Im going for one of these babies probablies tommorow if i get a chance
to get an order in...
