Right just wondered if you get caught speeding doesnt the letter have to come through within 7 days otherwise the conviction is void?
One of the directors at works wife got caught but got the letter 8 days after the conviction.. Does this still count as a conviction or not?
Any suggestions or links etc be very appreciated and repped :)
cheers

Yeh 7 days seems far too short, especially with our postal service at the moment! must be at least 2 weeks

Is it???
Has it changed. Scott got done and had to appear at court but he never heard anything for 5 months and when he questioned it the police said they have 6 months to fine you and give you points.
Thats was 3 years ago tho

To clear this up...
There is a difference according to how you are caught allegedly committing the offence. If you were "caught" by the officer you are given what is known as a "verbal NIP". The police then have 6 months to send a letter.
If caught by camera, they have 14 days unless the car isn't driven by the owner, or it's a company car or hire car etc etc

NIP - Notice of Intended Prosecution.
Seems to be a lot of parrots in this thread!!! Haha!
jul2vtr... I too was in a similar sitation. I was pulled over by a traffic car in March 2002 for some silly reason. I got a telling off and was on my way. Three months later, I received a court summons for speeding. I tried to argue the fact that I didn't receive an NIP. I asked to see a copy of the police report, which they sent me and he said he cautioned me (i.e. Verbal NIP) and that was the NIP. However, at the end of the day, it could have ended up in court with me against the police and I obviously didn't fancy my chances so I took the 4 points and £100 fine. It could have been a lot worse if I did take it to court. I took the better (cheaper) option.

It isn't, it is 14 days if caught by camera.

When you get the fine if you send a cheque for more than the ticket they have to refund you the difference and they cant give you the points till you cash your cheque, they may have changed this now though

Haha!!! That "used" to happen a looong time ago. However, they have caught onto it and all they do now is send the cheque back asking for the "correct" amount. You can be done for wasting police time too ;)
