Engine Noise - Please Help

ive just brought a vts mark 2 (V/99) and it seemd to be running fine , i started the car this morning and it is ticking over quite loudly (a sort of tapping sound) when idle. i think it also does it when driving along too

any ideas ?

have you opened the bonnet up and tried listening to see where its coming from?
Has it started happening after you fitted something? ie: induction kit??

does the mk2 have hydraulic tappets?

VTS has hydraulic tappets yes. So adjust themselves.

I think a lot of saxos do this, mine makes a tapping sound and when i saw sax_stu earlier his done it also. I find mine only does it when cold, once ive driven round a bit it goes. Not sure what it is, must be a saxo thing smileys/smiley17.gif .

mine does too.. its to do with induction kits and exhausts in some cases.

opened the bonnet , it was the alternater belt , when it was taken of it had a massive split in , as soon as this was changed it ran smooth again.
