Xbox 360 and HDMI - Pics added!

Hi folks.

If you've read one of my previous threads, you'll be aware that my old 360 doesn't have HDMI out, so I'm stuck with the component cable, booo!

Can anyone tell me what 360 I need if I want one which I can use an HDMI cable with please?

cheapest way would be to get an "arcade" long as its a new build date it will have HDMI (infact i think all arcades have HDMI as they have replaced the "core"), theres a deal on atm £159.99 + a free game in "game" atm thats for an arcade, as you dont need another hdd etc thats the best way. I'm sure they can tell you if it has HDMI or not long as you don't get a weirdo behind the counter lol. My mate picked up one of these the other week and it has HDMI on it etc.

Cheers guys. Well, I was thinking of looking for a bargain on Ebay, so I need to make sure I purchase the correct model. Looking in the system stats, only the Elite models appear to have 1920*1080 as the max resolution. What is the difference between the Elite and any other model come to think of it?

Im also buying an Elite just because I dont have a HMDI port. Just hard trying to shift my non-hdmi xbox.

Tempted to get a PS3 just for the Bluray too.

Hehe. I tried taking a pic of mine, but it looked good through the camera! lol. I just look at the lettering used in my friends list as an example, and it doesn't look very good at all, the lettering looks messy and in low resolution. A mate at work said he used the component cable at first, and didn't think the "HD" was all that much cop. Then he bought an HDMI cable and it was a totally different picture! Hmm...

Na those bits are good on ours (well mine for sure) but its when you press the xbox home button and the menu appears from the side. That bit for me is blurry....

Good work with the pics mate. It's hard to tell with the camera, as it makes it look better in some respects. When I get home tonight, I'll have a crack at taking some pics too, we'll see if we can spot some obvious differences. But I agree completely with Rob, in the way that the background looks pretty good, but it's when you look at text and the like, you can see how bad it is... What size TV is this Soulless?

Toad have you made sure youve selected "widescreen" in System, Display, TV mode or whatever it is.

You see that little ring symbol above Jacko's horizontal name? If you look at that on my TV, it's just made up of big blocks, looks rubbish, defo not HD.

Okay ill run through the only things imo it can be.

1.) Block at back of XBox should be set HDTV.
2.) You are definitely using 5 component leads,
Red, white Audio,
Red, Blue, Green Video.
3.) Settings on Xbox are set to 1080 i or p (depending on your tele's capabilities)
4.) Set to widescreen.

Theres nothing else too it.

All of those are set up mate. If I set it to 720p it's no different than 1080i/p...

720p / 1080i / 1080p are all the same on my Xbox...

You should read up on the differences of "i" and "p" though. Its the way the imagne is displayed.

Basically 1080i is supposed to be the same as 720p. But 720p looks much clearing and
crisper on my screen!

Nah trust me, the better the image the better. On many games now there are fine details
that dont show up on normal TVs that DO show up on HDTVs (using HD cables)

For example there was complaints with regards to the Dead Rising game as the text was
tiny sometimes which was unreadable on some non HD screens! Crazy.

Yea i meant as long as the gameplay is to a good definition.

Bit like forza 2, the writing is a little small if you sit quite away from the tv

See with Dead Rising, even up close the text was really bad. There were loads of complaints
sent in to Capcom. There response was they intended the game to be used on a HDTV!

Fair enough I guess.

ANother example is on Burnout Paradise. YOu can barely see the map on a basic TV!

Heres mine, im pleased with the picture, very sharp and clear. Although i will be upgrading to an elite soon for the quieter fan, bigger hard drive and the hdmi would be nice as i have a few ports on the tv. This xbox has already died once but its now out of waranty :panic:
