Yeah..

I got caught speeding the other day and have been looking up at these loopholes online..

Just wondering if any one has any suggestions?

Basically - I'm still in my first 2 years - and it was a genuine lack of concentration, in a 30 zone (on a hill, hardly lit and signed at all, I don't think anyway).

I lost concentration for a moment and before I knew it (I wasn't even accelerating, I was covering the brake and just coasting), I was flashed, and gutted..

Anyway, I've got the NIP, Like you do, and its confirmed a 41mph, which to be fair sounds about right..

Now i'm not looking to be a master criminal who gets away with everything, though I do think there should be a way to avoid such a thing.

I can't find any clear information on this, Some of you probably know the camera - Saltford, heading towards bath from longwell green, Bristol..

Yeah.. Any ideas?
Don't fancy 3 points If i don't have to have them..

Please, none of the 'Don't speed in the first place' comments - I know this, but everyone loses concentration sometimes, even for a split second!

was it in the dark? if so you could always just say you couldnt see any 30 signs so sped up a bit. were there street lights? if so you dont really have an argument. anywhere there's street lights is a 30 zone unless otherwise stated.

OR you could just face the consequences. you were speeding and got caught. no point really in trying to wriggle out of it!

My mate once got caught and asked to see the picture. He was going to say it wasnt him if the picture didnt show it and his mum was going to take the points for him. but was clearly him in the picture.

sorry to say this, but there are no ways out of it.. you were speeding and its not really important if it was intentional or not fact is you were caught.

Theres no point appealing as they have photographic proof and im sure they have heard every excuse under the sun.

Sorry to be negative :n:

I may be wrong, but if you were under the next 10mph over, e.g 39 in a 30, you can do a course which costs 90 pound or something they dont give you the points, but as you were over that not much u can do

i think the same just take the blame 3 points fine and slap on wrists would be better then making it worse

never heard of that but when i crashed my car the police said they have video evidence i was actually acting about so i demanded i wanted to see them so instead of showing me it and giving me 6 points plus a fine the sent me on this driving course in nottingham it was 185 quid and you get a free meal 2 day course lol but not heard it for speeding

I know what you're saying guys - However there's no internet link for a picture or anything.

It was dark, about half 9 a couple of weeks back.
Pretty sure it wasn't Street lit, and didn't see any signs, though its a well known camera (Apparently anyway..).

I know I was caught, but tbh, I've just missed the opportunity for the course thingy, which is 39mph..

Some places say get the formulae and the measurements and work out the speed yourself etc, which is an option - Not really up for a court appearance, something in writing would be adequate, failing that i'll settle for the points.

I atleast want a picture first though!

You can pay £120 and do an advanced driving course to avoid points i think

Or say your speedo was out and take it to a friendly mechanic who can confirm this for you

Thought it was £60, avoid the points etc, Pretty sure that is up to 39mph though, Unless there's another one?

If so, I don't mind paying extra, its the points that cripple me atm!

I work for a taxi company and a lot of our drivers have got away with speeders by asking if the speed cameras have recently been calibrated ... Just a thought

Thats the plan - There's 3 people insured on the car, and so could be anyone..
I know it was me, I was there, and I saw it flash lol..
Tried getting my mum to take them, she's having none of it tbh haha.. Offered her £50 too lol..

I'll probably end up taking the points - But if I don't Have to I don't want to.
I'm trying to sort myself out, I have bad history, crossed with bad luck since i've been driving - Trying to sort it out and then get caught off guard..

Gutted - My driving since i got flashed is totally different too now, Gutted.

Thought about that - Don't want them trying it on though - Don't fancy court?

whatever you do, do not say you dont know who was driving. I tried this, said it could be my wife or me didnt know which. Got another letter saying it was an offence not to disclose etc. I wrote back saying i really dont know who it was. Next thing i got was a court summons where i got 3 points, £100 fine and an MS90 conviction. These are a bastard conviction. "failure to disclose driver details". Imagine how much insurance company liked that one. Overnight my premiums doubled for the next 5 ferkin years. some companies wouldnt even touch me. Thats 36, Architect, previous unblemished record.

Just send off the form, take the points, pay the fine and dont speed lol

Yeah the whole didn't recieve thing is out anyway - I sent off for the Calibration Certificate and Photographic evidence earlier anyway, just clicked!

Might try it on a little, failing that i'll take the points - DO they back date it to the Date of the offence?
If not, I'll drag it out as long as possible, preferably till 19th September, where i'll be out of my 2 years anyway :P lol..

Cheers

dont.... just wait for their photos etc to come through (and they will, believe me i asked as well) and send back the NIP form. if you wait to long they just send the summons and then your ferked.

That camera is evil. My mate lost his licence on that one :(, but that is a good thing as he drove like a tit.

Thinking of it, there isn't any speed camera signs anywhere near the camera. That might be the loop hole.

i've heard that if someone else fills in the form for you (mum or whatever) they can't give you the fines and points (apparently how that footballer a few years back got away with it, don't know his name, don't do football)

also, go rip down all the speed camera signs, paint the back of the gatso black and say that was how it was when you drove past haha

Take responsability that you got caught out! i got off lucky doing 90mph in a 40zone and got pulled over by a police cruiser who let me off as it was a frist time offence!

You could protest and ask for the calibration report etc etc but really these days 3 points is nothing, so many peole have 3 points its unbelieveable!

My friend got 3 points for speeding, added £30 to his premium the year after!

I presume they didn't follow you long enough at 90mph then.. i find it hard to believe they had followed for 1/4 mile or whatever it is at speed and didn't convict! If so... you were damn lucky!

And the camera... If there's no signs for it, surely it's void? apart from that i cant see a way to get out of it! Unlucky mate!
