have been seriously thinkin of going to college lately. at the minute im working in a factory. the money is good but it is just the same thing every day and i dont want to do this for the rest of my life. i would really like to be a social worker or someone who works with kids and youths like a youth worker.
ive been looking up courses and i know that you have to pay if your over 19 which isnt really a problem as it will all be worth it.
does anyone else do anything in this field? or anyone really that has just been fed up with their job and decided to college?

think i will. i know its going to be alot of money and time but if it means i wil have a better job in the future then it will be worth it. its just cus im buying a house and one day i would like to not struggle or worry about money or the safety of my job. though i have to say, i dont regret going into work sraight away as i wouldnt be able to afford a house or a car. i think that you get pushed into chosing something quickly when you are in school. i didnt know what i wanted to be then but i do know so its definately worth a go.

im a girl by the way. anyway cheers for all the advice. think once ive moved into my own house im gonna get onto it. luckily for me i only work 3 days a week so i could go to college on the other days or even weekends. the idea just came to me really when there was a few people at work talkin about the fat that they've been there like 30 odd years. it just depressed me.

Oh rite, I norm say bruv so... Ac not sure wats worse.
Yea the people i worked with were stuck there for years and years, They kept TELLIN me to get out while i can. If you stay in a factory job for 3years your there for life basically. :n: i didnt like the sound of that. i go bk and see them all every few months as i got on really well with them, and its me tellin them to get out and get a real job, but they reply with, "" ive got a mortage and kids" they feel safe in their job which i can c there point but hey cheers for the advice they gave me. :clapping::clapping:

some people where i work buzz off the fact that they've worked there years. think the own te place. havent even moved up on the career ladder promotion wise. though i do understand that the older you are the harder its going to be to get another job and if they've got kids etc then it is best to stay put. but im still young (wahoo) so why not try somethin new ay?

upto you if college is the answer. have a think at what career you want then go and speak to an advisor at the college to see what course will suit your future. im in my final few weeks at uni now and i must say its really helped me figure out what i want in life so education is a good thing if its what you want. bare in mind that even after studies your new working life will be very similar to your situation now, and that is doing the same thing until you retire, only difference is you may actually enjoy it.

yes loops so true. im a better worker than half the older people in my factory but they always get first say on things etc because they've been there longer and are older.
i think id really enjoy working with youths or kids or anyone really. id like to make a difference. and i think getting up in the morning and actually wanting to go to work would make me alot happier rather than waking up every morning thinkin i just cant be arsed' and coming home with repetitive strain injury

Well i left college as i really hated it,
I tried my best, but i think at the end of the day i chose the wrong courses and i just felt i did it to please my parents as on a personal level i feel i have wasted two years. Don't get me wrong its not like i didn't try my GCSE results were excellent, just College was not for me
I straight away applied for full time at my local work, and have loved every second. I have a managers interview coming up in a few months which would add a nice bit extra to the monthly wage, if i get it that is!
I haven't regretted leaving college at all, and i doubt i ever will. I have always thought. You go to an interview..... if someone with no common sence at all but the brains of steven hawkins turns up, they would rather choose me your average schooled but hard working individual willing to give everything and anything to progress.
I believe Uni etc is great to right for the right person, i mean to become a doctor for instance you need that level of education. Its a delusion that to become successful you need all these degrees etc. I would rather earn 30k than be in that much debt. I am sure everyone knows someone in their thirtys still paying off uni debts.
Look at richard branson, does he even have GCSE's?
Please don't let me put you off doing whatever you want to do, i am just saying that you can have a great life without it..... Life is what you make it as they say.

child care might be a good idea, youths are too much of a handful imho opinion, may get knifed if you are doing a job looking after deprived young uns.

cj saxo........ thanks for your comment and no you havent put me off at all. i actually agree with you. what sort of job was it you went to do? the only work around when i left school was factory though i would have loved to have done some sort of trainin as college really did not appeal to me. half of the people i know who went to college havent got a job out of it.
i think in last year of school you are pushed into decided what you want to do. i put my name down for art and design but only cus i was good at graphics and they were forcing me to decide. i think they should bring in training courses into schools and a wider variety of choices rather than just basic english, french, drama etc. i think maybe like mechanics courses and phsycology or something.

When i worked at a college there were LOADS of people doing social care related courses, far more than are needed, a lot of them struggled to get related work.
I'd suggest not going for the first course that appeals to you, find a subject you find interesting where there is a great demand for people in the field and little supply, then you are more or less guaranteed a job.

there really is nothing at all i would like to do other than this. there are many things you can do when you are a qualified social carer. i went on te learn direct website and there's loads of things. i will have a look around and see if there is anything else that catches my eye but at the minute im pretty set on this one thing.
be gutted reall going to college all them years and not being able to get a job out of it. but atleast id be qualified if anything did pop up. could always do work based learning.

IMO you are better off getting in as a trainee at low wage, getting a foot in the door, experience, then you will be far more likely to end up with a decent job in social care, and you will have money along the way, they will pay for you to get qualified usually too.
I went to college after a few years working, did 2 years electronics, got straight distinctions, couldn't find a job at all for years, everyone wants people with experience.

currentl buying a house though and cant afford alower wage than what im already on otherwise i would defo go for trainee. i would prefer to do this but in my current position it would be a bit tricky. maybe once im at college i could look into maybe doing one day during the week and or weekend work training

nopes just my career path :p, nah i wouldnt give a mokeys about that tbh its just the fact that i did two years travel and tourism as i wanted to be a travel agent but like most jobs "you cant get the job because you havent got the experience, you cant get the experience because you havent got the job"
it sucks big time
