Evening all,
Im looking at buying one of these cars around a 2001 -2002 plate. Anyone heard any good or bad reports. What they are like to drive, and what to look out for. Not sure what engine yet, but it wont be a S3 lol
How times change, gone from a supercharged vts to a bmw now this. Sometimes I wish I never sold the saxo:wacko:
Thanks Matt

Shares a lot with the Golf, but has a bit more class (and a fatter price tag lol). 1.6 isn't really going anywhere quick, but does the job, if insurance isn't too much of an issue the 1.8Turbo 150bhp is the one to get, smooth, quick and reasonably economical. The diesels are great- 1.9TDi are bullet-proof. Interiors sound, look good, if you don't mind paying premium for the badge they're a very nice car :)

i like the a3's there nice cars and you can get them lookin quite sporty aswell. as above the 1.8turbo's are pritty fast, plus you can get them tuned up to very fast cars.

My mate is a mechanic. He think's they are shite unless they are the upper range. This is the old one though. The gearbox's are pants and they go wrong alot.
The 1.8t isn't to bad and the tdi's are pretty good.

whoever said lots go wrong is bullshitting buddy, id personally say get a quattro so either a 1.8t or the diesel they are awesome we had a 1.9 tdi for a few years and just bought a new 2.0 tdi quattro awesome cars
if going for a diesel made sure its more recent when they had the 130 ps engines
also watch out for seat boulster wear and rough tick overs and the usual signs of boy racer in the turbo models
good cars!

go for a quattro a3 sport.
they are 4wd and come with 180bhp standard from the 1.8 20v turbo motor. the best to tune at this moment in time.
a revo chip will take you up over the standard S3 figure of 225bhp. then you can add a filter, exhaust system, tubular manifold, bigger front mounted intercooler etc. you can get 350bhp from these for very little dollar.
look at a company called awesome tuning or motorsport, they specialise in the 1.8 20v turbo tuning scene ;)
you can get a a3 sport quattro, fully loaded with leather etc, canny cheap.
you can make it better than an s3, but without the kit and recaros.
you can also fit some nice big porche brakes lol
there is so much you can do to these cars
i want one next, or a volvo s60 R ;) lol

The only bad thing I've ever heard about them is the coil packs going on them. This was a problem across the VAG/Skoda range on the 1.8T motor.

clearly not that quick mate the 1.8 t engine is the same engine cupra r any of the 1.8t audis just remap manifold and turbo diferent and if ur gonna put a ko5 turbo on it any of them will do.... i mean the engine is in the golf gti the skoda octavieas seats audis all the vag group use it..... so why transpant the same engine?

It did not long after if I'm right, he kept the engine and put it in a red mk1 saxo.
