difficult to start

hi ive got a W reg 1.1 saxo done approx 42k miles.

recently when i have tried to start the car from cold it won't start easily.

if i press my foot down the accelerator then it will start but if i lift my foot off the accel say 20 secs after starting then it stalls. if i hold my foot on accel for approx 30 secs then take it off then the engine will continue to run, just.

i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to why it cuts out and poss solutions.

have done a fair bit of work on it but to no avail
have put in new spark plugs, put in new energizer battery yesterday still no luck, put in new fuel filter, changed oil and new air filter.http://www.saxperience.com/images/emoticons/banghead.gif

ive read around a little now.

i understand its possible to clean the idle control valve.

how do you do this?
