hi got a saxo 1.1 w reg

having problems starting car. advised might be stepper motor.

ive got my stepper motor out of the car now.
could anyone pls tell me how to clean it

do you clean the electrical contact pins?
does the unit have to b taken apart to clean it?
or do u just clean the round surface at the back (near springs)?
the round surface has a small indentation on it. is this significant?

any help much appreciated

thanx :y::y:

hi superchippedvts

thanks for getting back to me

recently when i have tried to start the car from cold it won't start easily.

if i press my foot down the accelerator then it will start but if i lift my foot off the accel say 20 secs after starting then it stalls. if i hold my foot on accel for approx 30 secs then take it off then the engine will continue to run, just.

have done a fair bit of work on it but to no avail
have put in new spark plugs, put in new energizer battery yesterday still no luck, put in new fuel filter, changed oil and new air filter

a respondent on a different thread thought that icv may be at fault

Yea its deffo stepper motor mate!

its not contacting inside to tell the ecu to hold the engine at idle again(on the way back down from accelerating) resulting in a really low/lumpy idle or stalling! also it can stall in between gear changes!

i had it on my 1.1 106, its a common problem, its only held on by 3 torx bolts, unlcip the clips all the way round it(CAREFULLY, i had to tape mine back together after i snapped them all:n:) open it up clean out all the gears, contacts, ect(i used electrical de-greaser) then re-grease gears and put it back togethor!

ittl only work for bout 2-3 months(well mine did anyway) but it only takes 10 mins so why not!

hope that helps!

also try putting your foot UNDERNEATH the acc pedal and pull it up slightly

this lets the arm on the side of the carb press on the stepper motor harder and hopefully make contact inside!

this is what i did on mine everytime it happened and it worked every time without fail:y:

yeah thats what i ended up doin, but at the time it seemed like a good idea! and for the couple of months that it worked i was happy, an £30 better off too!
