hi all my car failed on m.o.t on the following

parking brake has excessive play in pivot and may disengage

nearside rear parking brake recording little or no effort

is this a case of just adjusting the handbrake from underneath car or is there more to it to get the nearside rear parking brake working as it should do?

also the excessive play in pivot do i just tighten the bolts?

cheers

Yes try and tighten the bolt on the handbrake cus mine was near enough out when i got my car, and yes try and tighten the cable on the adjuster but you will have to jack the car up and its under one of the heatshields near to where the hanbrake is.

so i put car on axle stands on rear do i leave handbrake up or down when tightining the adjuster

Chock the front wheels, put it in first, release the handbrake, jack up the rear and then undo the nuts on the heatshield and you'll see the adjuster, yes the handbrake needs to be off and then slacken the adjuster nut so the cable is loose, then get in the car and pull the handbrake upto the fourth notch, go back underneath and retighten the adjuster nut and check for movement in rear wheels.

Think thats it covered;)

No worries, i think sometimes the centre section can be in the way of the heatshield nuts but you'll see when under there, good luck, hope thats all it needs :y:
