Corrupt Word Document

My mate has lost a word .doc that was on his memory stick and has been left with a file named Rescued Document.doc

Now when I open it theres some standard english text however its mainly ??????????? and theres pages of it.

Is there anyway to get the data back.

Any help appreciaed.
