It's not going to go down. The country don't have the balls to do it. Not like France iirc. They just didn't go to work when prices got to high.

MrHouston

Was on the radio yesterday, North West will be hit due to a 48 hour strike in about a week, which will have a shortage for about a month

I hope there isn't one, the petrol ques last time were pathetic

Mitchell
21st April 2008, 12:42

21st April 2008, 12:44
average round here shot up from 103.9 to 107.9+ within a week. Madness!

I doubt anything will happen, but it sure as hell needs to!

But hey, we're British, we dont want to make a fuss incase we upset anyone :D

Noddy
21st April 2008, 12:45
all sax's will take the same ish to fill up, just with the lower engine sizes, that tanks goes abit further than the 1.6's :)

Rumours of a strike will cause people to panic buy fuel!
Which means better sales for the garages!

nathan0711
21st April 2008, 14:01
cheapest near me is about 106.9p a litre for petrol and sumthing like 119p for diesel, its way too much!!! i agree a strike mite get the prices down!! it needs to come down. went down to london a few weeks ago and saw it at 124.3p a litre for petrol and bout 145.6p for diesel. who pays those prices!!! bit like motorway services though, petrol there is way overpriced!

ryhornvtr
21st April 2008, 18:52
Its costing me about £30 a week to get to uni and back 3 times in the week. Thats just fuel and park and ride one of those days. I will not get rid of my vts though, then the government have won imo. If i was to add tax and insurance on my commute it would be about £46 a week:panic:

A strike will either not happen and nothing will change, or it will happen, people panic buy and still nothing will change.

BenSilverSaxo
21st April 2008, 21:10
Only way things are gonna change is if the haulage and distribution companies make a stand.

They need to stop delivering things, no food on the supermarket shelves and protests would really worry the government.

It would require one large distribution company with alot of power, and the state of the industry at the moment we

a.) dont have a strong british company to do it(and no eddie stobart and james irlam arent big enough)

b.) operators from the european union would come straight in and pick up from where we stopped.

Im off to china tbh lol.

Between Petrol And Road tax, i dont see why anybody in this country needs sex, we all get F**ked By the government everyday lol

I wonder If we all chipped in and made our own petrol company, charged 99.9p a litre and see how much buisness we get. before long we would all be minted ;)

This time next year we'll be millionaire's!

I paid 108.9 for unleaded yesterday. It cost me £51 to fill up a saxo :fcuk: It's truly ridiculous how much we are charged compared to some other countries. We can only afford to take the TVR out once a week and we have to put normal unleaded in it. We just can't afford the price of super unleaded

Heard on the news this morning that oil companies are accused of profiting after fuel has risen 5p in the space of a week in some places.

Ridiculous, but what can we do about it? Everything is going up in price at the moment. China is to blame

no

the grangemouth one is because there is a dispute about pensions. the workers just now are on an extremely generous pension where they are not required to make any contribution, it's all the employer. however this is due to change to bring it in line with most other occupational pensions.

people speculate and panic buy - which leads to shortages as there is too much demand on individual petrol stations.

what you said wasn't relevant at all to the thread. you also mention milk as an example which isn't affecting the UK, as most of it china's milk imports are from inside the EU. there are also strict quotas to limit the impact that this can have, and to keep the cost of living down inside the EU regardless of what happens with china, for example.

no doubt china has an affect on the price of oil however, there are many other factors which i am not going to outline in this thread about a petrol strike.

As I work in the industry I can tell you for a fact China's recent Economic growth has had a direct impact on the prices of comodities such as milk, flour, coffee beans, dairy products etc
Ahahah.

Would love to see the miserable old gits face then!

Anyway, back on track. 107.9p by me this morning (remember when we were whinging that petrol had tipped 90p a litre? :zainy:)
