saxo 1.6 auto gearbox problem

i have a saxo 1.6 sx auto i have just replaced the gearbox as i lost drive, have installed the new gearbox but cant get any drive i have put 2 ltrs of oil in can anybody help me find out what i am doing wrong does it need more oil

Was the gearbox brand new or was it a used box?

Haynes manual quotes:
4.5 litres to fill the auto box and torque coverter from empty.
2.5 litres to do a drain and refill (fluid change) - other 2 litres stays in torque converter after tansmission is drained.

I have the same model have you got the selector cable set-up correctly? the other thing is the starter inhibitor switch okay?
