Reet, I've changed wishbones, drop links, top mounts, dampers, springs, steering rack and PAS pump on my VTS. I took it today to have 2 track rod ends and to be tracked as it was STILL knocking and I couldnt for the life of me get the rod ends off. I got a phone call 10 minutes after I dropped it off saying the rod ends are fine and the knocking is being cause by the damper movin inside the strut. Now, I only replaced them about 100 miles ago and the knocking was still there so it's not a fitting error. Is it common for this to happen and if so, what the fuck is it?

The PAS pump waa knackered when I bought the car so I got a 67k west coast one of Ebay for £90. Fitted it today, filled it with fluid and bled the system by going from lock to lock several times etc but the pump doesnt work? Steering is still just as hard as when I had no pump connected. I've checked fuses and the wiring is tight so other than another fucked pump, is there anything I can try??

Getting titsed off with teh car now as I've changed EVERYTHING and it still knocks and the PAS still doesn't work. FFS.

Knocking problem is exactly the same as mine! I changed it all as well, and still it does it!

Are you sure its coming from the front and not the rear??

And yes it is a common problem! Imo this is what lets saxo's down! The shit build quality of the suspension components!!

Could be any of the following;

Spring(s) not seated correctly
Driveshaft(s)
Rear beam bushes
Engine mount
Gearbox mount
Loose steering rack
Ovalled hub, allowing movement in the socket.

I've changed the steering rack, drop links, wishbones (with balljoints), dampers, rebuilt the top mounts, new springs, clutch, gearbox, gear linkages, PAS pump.

I had a knocking, clutch slipped, gearbox was noisy and the PAS didn't work. Clutch is sorted, box is sorted, linkages are sorted but the PAS still doesnt work and it STILL fucking knocks!

I'm pretty sure I'll have it sorted tommorrow. Im going to get a massive bar and hammer and give the gold not that holds the damper into the strut assembly a good beating to get it as tight as I can. Thats the ONLY thing it can be!

Then send the PAS pump back :(

Also, the passenger wheel (brand new wishbone) sits further back towards the sill than on the drivers side (original wishbone). Is this normal?
