Oh, sorry, wrong Black Box.
No, it's all about the fitting of a device to monitor how you drive. (and your parents can log on and see how you're doing!)
Good idea?
Bad idea?

If you would hate the idea, just chew on this factoid..
More than 14 young drivers and their passengers are killed every week, and male drivers aged 17 to 20 are almost ten times more likely to be killed or seriously injured than men aged 40 to 59.

But if youre 18, your parents no longer have the right to recieve info about you as you are classed as an adult. When you concider that most people pass say 3-5 months after they are 17, you would only have the box for about 8 months...
Lot of money for piss all reward i think!

im in two minds about it, one it may make them drive with more care, but they gotta grow up one day, mum and dad cant watch there every move for ever

I see loads of 40 year old men speeding in their m5's. I bet their mummies are going to be fuming when they get home.

Thats true... have my own car so i'd tell them to "PISS OFF!" in all honesty...
Its just like this bollocks in Ireland of banning kids driving at night and with passengers

I dont have children but the way I was brought up was to be guided but ultimately its your life you decide.
Maybe best to wrap the kids up in bubble wrap and send them off on there way.
I would not fit one of those devices to one of my childrens cars. Especially as you start driving when you're 17 and virtually an adult. As an adult you should be treated like one.

Let kids learn the hard way imo. If they drive like a dick and kill themselves, they have learnt their lesson and wont do it again.
I dont think my parents will have let me have the device when i was younger.

Congratulations on a stupid post :y:
If they kill themselves they've hardly learnt a lesson have they. I think they should do it to young drivers who've already been caught speeding etc. more than say 3 times and not been given points. Or newish drivers with 3 points in their first year.

This would be a more reasonable idea!
However, the sort of parents who would actually fit one of these to their kid's cars are bound to be suppressive anyway. Thus just giving the kids another reason to rebel!

Make the government / DVLA do it then the parents cant say no etc. and instead of it going to the parents send the data to DVLA / Police.

I still wouldn't do it... insurance is high but not that bad. I'd rather have the freedom of them not knowing where I was dogging etc.

id pay 500 to have the black box lopped of my car.

If it lopped £500 then why not. It's not really like the parents could do anything if you were speeding anyway.

I think its a good idea. If it saves lives and maybe brings down insurance prices then :y:
There is a insurance company that puts a box in your car and charges young drivers for how much they drive whic I think is cool.
I think in Sweden and or Italy (iirc) you cant have any passengers for a certain time after you pass your test and/or radio but im not 100% on the second one.

That definatly is a black box, I'd easily fill her box without any questions. So long as she doesnt start going "OOOHHHHH AAAAHHHHH" during said filling. Or even start going "GOTTA GET UP, GOTTA GET UP, GOTTA GET UP". Would completly ruin the mood tbh...

If anything some kids will take it as a competion to get the highest top speed they can get recorded just to show all their mates. May sound silly, but damn I bet it would be done

For someone that is a mind of information, you're not that clued up on your music trivia:
Black Box - Ride on time ;)
I say just increase the age you can drive from to 18, with at least a year compulsory on L plates.

Oh the shame. I'd not even noticed the typo, all I can put forward in my defence is my fast approaching senility.

So males aged between 17 and 20 are 10 times more likely to have an accident than a male 40-59.
Interesting stuff.
A strong enough case to increase the minimum driving age - wouldn't you say !?
Something I'd be in favour of.

But what is the difference between 17-20 and 20-30 then? Yet another biased use of selective figures/statistics. Obviously by the time anyone is 40 there going to drive slowly as they probably have family.
I dont see how having a black box is going to change my driving. Unless the police can use them as evidence, in which case Im sure no-one would want them anyway
