Magnex backbox - why is it so quiet?

Alright boys and girls

Got my mangex backbox a while back and got round to fitting it today.

took it home slowly (didn't want to blow out the exhaust putty)

later i took it out and i can't even hear it even when giving at a bit.

i don't want it loud, but i want to hear it burble, nice and subtle.

when you are stood round the back it produces an awesome sound.

have i done something wrong or are they all like this?

I remember viewing predator_VTR's video when he fitted just the backbox of the magnex and that sounded nice, fairly loud.

I know its only a backbox but i put an aftermarket backbox on my old 1.1 and that made a nice sound.

Not the end of the world really, just a general question.

if its brand new then itll need to be run in, once the carbon inside has built up itll go louder, magnex arent known for loudness tho..

You'll see no difference with a Magnex backbox alone mate. I only noticed a difference in sound when fitting it with the Magnex centre section - In my case, the ABP straight through pipe. :y:

I have the magne only loud once passed about 4k revs. Probably quite because the backbox is huge lol

Magnex are pretty quiet.

Try using a K&N panel filter with it - shold improve the sound.

Its second hand also so its 'broken in' so to speak

Magnex's are very quiet. Even with a straight through centre section and a decat they are far from loud.

Ditto, but I'd agree with the comment of them being not very loud - must be the design of the backbox.

I'd definitely recommend the ABP centre section if you're keeping the CAT in the system. Otherwise, the twin box system might be a better bet as the straight through with de-cat really resonates at about 65/ 70 MPH.

Put me off getting a Magnex backbox then... was going to get it along with Supersprint centre section.

Besides Piper, any other backboxes sound good with SS centre?

They go much louder when you de-cat them!! mine is realy loud with the magnex full system,and de cat....

open a window lol no yeah the centre section will make a difference i had a magnex and u will never get it that loud coz the company made it more for performance then sound but mine gave a gd note past 3000 rpm

Used to have a full magnex exhaust system on my old saxo, was pretty quiet but once your giving it some it sounded pretty nice :). I'd say keep the box (run it in) and get de-cat

my full magnex system decat as well aint loud, but is a lovely sound when you got ya foot down. i personaly like it the way it is.

get a straight through m8t u wont be disappointed with they will increase acceleration free up revs and give u a betta note then just having a decat

yeah i quite liked it but if u wanna make it louder put in the straight through which takes out the centre silencer then u will get both improvment in bhp maybe a pony or 2 and sound

Magnex are designed to be quiet, some people (like me) look for that kind of exhaust.

If anyone really hates their magnex (backbox only), then sell it me for pennies please :)

i had videos of just the back box and then the full system on, full system quiets things down due to it being a 2 box design, also had a green induction on (wouldnt of made much difference) all i can sayis to get yourself a manifold on or just sell the nex for something louder if thats what your after

i quite like mine being a bit quiet especially if on long journeys you dont get the constant drone

I got a supersprint system recently and it wasnt as loud as i was expecting, got told its because i have a cat in manifold that needs to be opened up, should be a lot better then.
Magnex with supersprint center section sounds nice, just fits funny

Had mine for about 4 years now, and its pritty loud!! If you have full system,and de-cat it will be loud,but if you just have the back box,well it will be very quite...

I got ABP magnex race system on mine with 4-2-1 manifold. Quiet in my opinion. I like it. On my old car it had supersprint centre section with backbox and a 4-2-1 and that was loud. Sounded nice mind but more sleeper when its quiet.
