try confused.com that would proberly you best offer.

lancer - 6k + 5k ins = £11k
bmw - 13k + 1.5k = £14.5k
do the maths...

If you read up on them - check out the lancer register - the 4's are prone to crankwalk, best to get a 5+ EVO if you plan on keeping it for a while - could leave you with a £££££ bill.
If I was in your situation, I'd save for 1 more year, get an Evo 5, then pay 2k insurance.
pjsaunders06
3rd May 2008, 10:32
All cars are prone to problems mate, saxos are gearboxs, power steering pump etc lol
Plus the Evo looks meaner than the evo 5
maynard
3rd May 2008, 11:12
tbh mate, forget the idea of an evo at 19! way too much money to inusre run etc. wait a couple of years and buy something nice in between then get an evo :y:
pjsaunders06
3rd May 2008, 11:14
I have had a VTs, i have got a 200Sx lol i am bored need something else, i just spotted a evo 4 with a evo 8 engine in :y: 6K wanted

No worries, was just trying to give some advise - as if you're going to be spending serious £££££ on a car + insurance , you'd want one that isn't going to have a serious problem in the future.
Just have a little read on here:
http://lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=201229&highlight=crankwalk
http://lancerregister.com/showthread.php?t=200228&highlight=crankwalk
http://www.lancerregister.com/showpost.php?p=1289490&postcount=22
If your set on getting one then go for it, no doubt it'll be an awsome car to drive, but would be a shame having it off the road due to crankwalk, specially when spending ££££ on insurance.
I'm hoping to get an Evo, or something along those lines soon, just saving up so I can get a good one!

Well yes and no. There are some options that lower the cost if you choose them and you can bend the truth slightly and its not illegal to do so.

You'd be absolutely crazy paying £5k for insurance imo. It's money you'll never get back. I'd never pay over £1k. I think you've tried quotes with all the people I'd have thought of. We managed to get the TVR under classic insurance. I paid £535 at 22. Most companies insuring classic cars want you to be 23 or 24 but this company talk to their underwriters to see if they take you younger. You could buy something fun that comes under classic insurance if they'd let you

pjsaunders06
3rd May 2008, 19:45
Scoobys sound nicer but the lancer is better i think, never liked scoobs. Always thought they were faster etc now the scoobs are trying to challenge focus's as they cant beat the lancers haha WTF why go hatchback
I will have around 5k left to spend hopefully so i may put newer engine in with a few extra mods ;)
GRAHAM2000VTR

tried that bud, due to me being 19 i cant get trade insurance. the main policy owner has to be over 25
hang on right is this illegal, if my mum gets trade insurance then adds me to it, is that still fronting or is that legal

GRAHAM2000VTR
3rd May 2008, 20:33
okay ....
Never heard of anyone getting an Evo under 22 or 23 tbh. Fair play if you're brave enough bud to pay that sort of insurance...
pjsaunders06
3rd May 2008, 20:36
you got a type R at 20 :y:
i am raising the bar lmao
Smithy
3rd May 2008, 20:44
When i had my Evo 4 i was paying about £1k for fully comp insurance with 8 years no claims. You have to have a tracker plus cat 1. As said before Evo 5 is much better option , much stronger engine plus it doesnt look like a proton with a big spoiler....
You really should think about the running costs first. Servicing every 4.5k has to be run on V-power and it will drink like a tramp on white lightening. Tyres last about 8 - 10k and arent cheap.
pjsaunders06
3rd May 2008, 20:45
I will be putting clifford alarm and tracker straight in this, and hopefully evo 5 engine i prefer the look of the 4 to the 5
Smithy
3rd May 2008, 20:48

pjsaunders06
3rd May 2008, 20:51
i know are rather shite can you swap them for a later model ie i put s14 seats in my s13
you got a type R at 20 :y:
i am raising the bar lmao
lol- true that mate! But a Type-R is about as hardcore as I'd even consider at this age- 2k insurance, all my mates still reckon its wayy to much for a 20 year old, but then an Evo at 19- now thats just plain mental :P
If you can manage it... hats off to you fella.:y:
pjsaunders06
3rd May 2008, 20:59
lmao well if i manage to get it, i will let you know :y: i have a few private jobs coming up to 1k profit each job, and each job will take 2 days. That could pay for a few mods ;)

3rd May 2008, 20:59

pjsaunders06
3rd May 2008, 21:01
WTF with the red lol could retrim tbh although that another 1k probs lol
Smithy
3rd May 2008, 21:05
Think the designers must have had an off day when they put the colour charts together! Wouldn't bother retrimming it, its an Evo not a "showcar". Just stick some harnesses and a cage in it!
pjsaunders06

um what about the harnesses wont they get in the way?
well if ur mum does part time car valeting then shell be able to get trade insurance ;), and obv ull have to be insured to move the cars around when shes busy :O
im thinking about gettin trade, because im sick of payin silly money for other peoples fuck ups.

Also my car is a jap import and the WRC model of the gt4 with has 255bhp standard, and full vielside body kit declared.....
