Basically, Keep changing my mind.
After Deciding to go for 2 different Amps, one for the components and one for a Sub / Subs, I've changed my mind.

Basically I want it to be mounted out of site in the front of the car - I don't want lots of wires routed to the back of the car, and want to keep as much boot as possible.

Basically, Are there any Small Amps out there that will fit under the dash or somewhere out of site in the front of the car, That will Power 2 x Reasonable Subs, and a set of component speakers (ie 4 Channel)?

Also, Has anybody mounted one under a dash and how did they do it?

Any suggestions would be great.
Cheers

i very much doubt it mate would have to be 2 seperate ones as one to run everything are hard to come by and are usually quite big, would have to be a 5/6 channel amp

well, if you want boot space you could make a fake flooring, it would only lift the flooring up slightly, and you could still have plenty of room. its up to you though.

have a look at this and think it through.

Cheers - Didn't want the wiring to the boot ideally either, cba with it all over again if i'm honest.

My JBL GTO 4000 Ran a 1000w JBL Sub and Vibe SE-K Components with no problems at all, It was just a bit big to fit under the dash.

Surely I'd just need a Normal 4 Channel Amp - 2 Channels for components, Left (+ and -) and Right (+ and -), and then the same for the subs, one sub per channel.

Its just finding something reasonably priced etc - Tbh I think 1 Sub will be enough anyway, Don't want anything Silly Powerful anyway.

So lets just say I was only having 1 sub - 4 Channel Amp = 2 for Components and 2 for the Sub (Bridged)..

Have i got the idea on this right?

Cheers

4 channel amps wouldnt make enough power for to power for the subs and a set of components tbh mate i mean you can link the subs together using dual voice coil subs

you would be best just getting the one sub and then use a 4 channel amp to power the lot :y:

all depends on how much you wanna spend

Well, I've made an Offer on a Build on 106owners, and If i get it for a reasonable Price, I'll get 2 10" Subs, Rewire the Soundsystem with a Decent Wiring Kit, and get a Half Decent Amp to run the lot..

Depends if the guy bothers replying, But atm If i get the build, It'll be empty for a while, as the car just failed its MOT, so need a few bits done first!

hows about false floors in the footwells

under the front seats means amp will over heat (well is more likely to over heat anyway)

Predator_R32
6th May 2008, 19:53
wont heat under the seat as theres plenty of air circulation mate :y:

False floor ftw. That way you can hide the amps so they dont get nicked, you can keep them cool by using a couple of computer fans and you get to keep space, just loose depth.

Well the guy selling that build was being a fool so i didn't bother...

Not sure what I'm doing now - I'm Hopeless with making Stuff, so not sure what to do!

Might wait until pay day in 2 weeks or so when hopefully the car's all on the road and sorted, then go from there - Maybe Just buy some stuff and worry about a build after!

They seem really expensive to buy, even second hand!

Yes, they are quite expensive.

Its very easy to build one up using mdf and 3x2.

Make a false floor in the boot and you loose no space, just a bit of height.

Got one being made for me custom :) - Using Yours Pred as a bit of an idea as you havent lost masses of space by the look of it..

Bit over budget but worth it hopefully!

Will that amp run 2 Reasonable 12" Subs?

Looks good and matches the Theme of the car and would look awesome under the Window in the floor of my build :P

Not sure how good it is just there's one for sale on here!

Don't overly know what i'm looking at with wattage n stuff

Cheers

EDIT: Possibly 2 of these: http://www.kicker.uk.com/compvr.html

Well no imo. First this site doesnt seem too proffesional. Best to go with a reputable company especially when buying online.
Also it says 35 watts RMS x 4 (4 W load) assuming it really means 4 ohm, when bridged it will still give a pretty low rms. Also i dont think you should worry about how it looks, how often are you going to be looking in the boot?
This amp (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/8038.html) is pretty good but it all depend on how much you want to spend and the rms of the subs you have/will get.
Or you could just get a deal such as this (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4752.html)

WHat about if i went for More Channels and Did away with my Seperate Pioneer Amp then?

1 Amp for:

These components which I already have: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Infinity-Reference-REF5010CS-Car-Component-System_W0QQitemZ120258550177QQihZ002QQcategoryZ188 00QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

and 2 Reasonable Subs?

Nothing top of the range..

Rep'd for help so far :)

JoNaH_FTW

that means you need a 6 channel amp. 2 channels for the comps and 2 channels bridged for each sub. Can get something like a JBL 755.6 (http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/2751.html) but this would under power your comps by 15w which is fine but not ideal. But it would mean (i think) 160 w for each sub. Not sure about that as this amp has dynamic powering which im not to familier with.

tbh i would get 2 different amps one for the comps and one for the subs. Probably be cheaper and means you can get the best for your budget.

DavidKent

Well I already have this pioneer 2 Chann el: http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Pioneer-GM-X352

Which is currently connected to the Components..

If thats enough for them, Then i can Just get a 4 Channel Amp..

well you can put more power into the comps but if they sound ok now then its fine i rekon. Do the comps go fuzzy or anything at hign volumes? if not it should be fine. Saves you money so more for the amp/sub.

No, All seems fine - Will test better tomorrow I suppose...

Yeah Smaller 4 Channel Amp and some Subs with no worry about the Components then :)

Cheers mate.

Would a 2 Channel Amp such as this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kenwood-KAC-PS521-Car-Audio-Amplifier_W0QQitemZ220157086999QQihZ012QQcategoryZ 18796QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksi dZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247

Do 2 Subs?

Cheers

JoNaH_FTW

Just googled it and its 250 rms on a 2 ohm load and 125 rms on a 4 ohm load. I think most subs are set up as 4 ohm or 1 ohm load (1 ohm amps are expensive though). So no
Best to get a 4 channel amp and bridge it to give 2 channels with higher power output.
Are you set on getting 2 subs? You could get better sound quality for the same price by getting one but spending more so it is better quailty and higher power. All depend how much you want to spend

DavidKent

My build is coming for 2 Subs mate :)

TBH mate, if you're so concerned about loosing boot space, i really dont understand why you are getting 2 subs, which will practically FILL the boot with a couple of amps/1 big one. You wont get much more bass from having another 1. Ask pred- he knows.

If i was you i would use your pioneer anp for the comps, and buy a powerfull 2 channel to power a better quality sub. You are better off with 1 better one than 2 crappy ones tbh.

Right, Got some money coming back from insurance this week and so have money to spend.

Don't want to spend masses but some help would be awesome for a reasonable setup.

I need 2 x 12" Subs for my Build, and an Amp to power them.
Also need a Decent wiring Kit (I'll have 2 Amps) - I already have a small bit of power Cable and a Distribution box for it so that part is ok.

Also need some advice on a Decent Earth Point for both amps.

No real budget but nothing Silly tbh.. Say £200 but may stretch for some reasonable stuff.

Cheers

P.S - I'm relying on you pred :P

the bolt for the rear seats in the boot is a good earthing point mate :y:

200 quid or 2 subs, an amp to power them and a wiring kit???

DavidKent
26th May 2008, 12:39
I have no idea tbh mate - Whats an ideal budget?
Cheers

EDIT: Don't mind used either.

Predator_R32
26th May 2008, 12:44
does it have to be 2 then :p ???

i would say more about the 300 - 400 pound mark tbh mate, the amp could get expensive, just depends on what subs you choosed tbh
