i got pulled over a few minutes ago for having a tail light out. £30 fine as well because i stupidly said that it had broken before. so i've been fined on the grounds of neglect. is it fair though, because i didnt know it was out?
yep because you said you knew about it! Why did you say that??

Wait... did you know it was out or not before you set out?
If you did then, can't really complain. If you didn't know about it, shouldn't have said you knew about it, shouldn't of fined you then, but cops tbh are cocks majority of the time so either way - would of ended up fined imo.
Edit: Read your above post, not much you can do about it mate... just very unlucky :( On a wierd plus side, good that you know about it now - rather than the next to drive out at night, a car thinks your a ped with one light, and tries to go round you and hits your ass. Would cost more than £30 that way lol.
True i got pulled a while back and just said to the officer i didnt have a clue it worked driving from work so...
Just told me too sort it asap and next time he saw me it needed to be working lol

got pulled last year for brake light being out on the pug.
i knew it had gone and i had known about it for some days. (it was a fault with the light board, the bit the bulb plugs into)
anyway when i got pulled i was sitting in the back of the cop car getting breathalysed when i asking the cop which bulb was out. he told me which one it was and that was the end of it.
my mates an x copper and he said you can say you didn't know about any rear lights out apart from the indicators as the relay flashes quicker when there is a break in the circuit.

mate theres nothing you can do,you can pull out of a MOT stationa nd your car passed, then get to the first traffic light and a bulb can go,you will get done if you get pulled.
another stupid law in this country.
what you could have done was asked for a self rectification.
This is a voluntry thing were the officers ask if you want it.
you have so many days to get your car tested and passed.
not alot of people know about it though.

its the drivers responsibility to make sure that all the lights are working correctly so either way it is fair.
but most coppers will normally tell you to get it fixed and let you go but there are the odd few that just like to earn money for the government

unlucky mike :(
as mark said, most cops would just give you one of those proforma things so you have to go and get it fixed and prove you have had it fixed.
