appologise if this has been covered before!!!!!

im going to fit some new ice in the saxo got some of the stuff already, the only things i need are rear speakers and an Amp - the subs are 10" and the RMS is 150 watt - the front speakers have a RMS 35 watt!!

the rears will be similar to the front. all the speakers are mutant and the amp will be the same (its the black and silver theme thing before anyony says there shite lol) and its an alpine headunit in the car

heres my question do i need a crossover and what size of amp will i need ?????

i just noticed the thread below - i hate electrics so it means 0 i just need to know either 800W, 1000W etc pmpl

you're best off getting amped up component speakers in the front. if ours are 35 rms then im guessing you have co axials..... also try and stay away from mutant

Amp the subs, not the door speakers! just get a low amp, like a 250watt, because 150rms watts isnt very powerful, and u dont want to blow it! should sound better than before though.

you want amped up components otherwise all you will hear is bass

Its my car thats in question here! lol

Ive got mutant component front speakers, been told there quite good they out out 88 dB, wouldn't buy coaxials.
My subs are both 10" mutant and the shop I got them from has advised me to fit them with a 350watt mutant xxx amp.

i would still only amp the sub, because the front speakers are only 35rms watts, they will just blow on an amp when turned up! and if its to bassy, change the equaliser on ur head unit having the door speakers playing the tweeter sounds, and the sub playing all the bass! will sound fine then.

Coaxials are just as loud as components, just not as focused or as well balanced as compenents. They have a narrower frequency band.

The mutantr component speakers will sound much much better when run off a little amp.

What you wanna do is buy a very cheap 2 channel, which will put out no more than 40w rms, then buy a monoblock amp to run the 2 subs.

What voice coil configuration are the subs, as this determines what amp you uneed to buy?

Even something as cheap as this will sound twice as god as the headunit.

Then for the subs, use this. (depending on VC config)

the front speakers she already has are mutant mt507 - VC is 1"Aluminium
and the subs are max power 500 watts, rms 150, frequency response 35Hz to 1KlHz, sensitvity 90dB - there is no VC rating on the box the subs are in!!!

we already have an alpine headunit

when it comes to sound/ice im totally lost lol!!!!

There must be a VC arrangement. I would guess at svc 4 ohm, but couldnt be certain.

Have a look in the instructions.

Is that single 2 ohm, or dual 2 ohm?

You sure on that? I think you can get single 2 ohm...

Take a picture of the back of the subwoofer for me, including the binding posts. Cus id have thought it would be dvc it was 2 ohm.

Also is it a pair that came in a box together, or did you buy them seperately and buy your own box?

you can get single 2 ohm - i've fitted an install with a SVC 2ohm sub before now....

Oh yer, i know you get them, but they are quite rare, and i wouldnt have thought mutant would make a single 2 ohm sub thats all.

He also doesnt seem so sure himself, which is why i am questioning it. Lol

ah i see what you mean now :) - yeah as coonper said, get a pic of the back of the speaker and we can get the info we need - or even just a model number would be sufficient...

Right! Thats more like it! Lol

That means your amp needs to be either 2 or 8 ohm stable.

If you wire the sub in parallel you will get 2 ohms, and in series will show 8 ohms.

And if the subs are 150rms each you want an amp that will do at least 300 rms @ 2ohms.

Like this one.
