the answer .......

Cost of fuel
New, fresh oil will cost around 37p/litre in the supermarkets - go for the cheapest as it's usually rapeseed oil and that is grown in the UK. Vegetable oil bought in bulk will normally cost about 40p/litre delivered to your door in 20 litre containers. Waste vegetable oil costs about 10p/litre delivered but this needs to be filtered before you can use it. It's possible to buy cleaned filtered waste oil which is the best of both worlds for about 25p/litre. Contacts for bulk oil available on request.

Edit:- luke - caught and, your well and truely fooked tax and a well hefty fine upto 3k im sure and im sure the take the motor off you an' all
you car should run on 100% rapseed oil all year round its thinner than veg and there is copanys that will sell it might be a bulk buy of 200liters say but it would be worth it

vosa have spot checks now and then red = busted !!! you would get away with veg

can just imagine going to your local tescos with a trolley full of oil every other day.

there was a guy when the Grangemouth strike started in a tesco car park and he had a trolly full of 5ltr containers just filling up his car it was in a few of the papers up here!! lol

tbh buying in 200L bulk wouldnt be bad. my car swallows 50L at a time so it wouldnt take me long to get through it (if i had a diesel that is)

i didnt think it was possible to run on 100% oil? i'm not sure though i havent really looked into it.

the cheapest is about 52p a litre in the supermarket now

I heard that you can use a certain amount of veg oil tax free - the amount doesn't spring to mind though.

Doesn't give as good fuel economy and I'd look at running a 70/30 ratio max, less in the winter when you need the car to start from cold as the veg oil gets a little thick.

We're getting a van soon that will run on veg oil.. perhaps we'll do a thread on how we make it run

tesco is cheaper but you have to buy 1 litre bottles lol

takes a long time to fill up. Was funny when I bought 25 bottles in a single trip.. told the cashier that I liked frying ;)

LOL!

Its just that the fuel has a dye added so that if a tank is dipped, it marks the stick used.
Also will dye fuel lines leaving a trace!

I have run my bmw on a mix of vegioil and diesel when i was skint last year. Works well.
I bought 20litre containers from Costco at roughly 66p a litre though I occasionally dropped into tesco's in emergencies when I was running out of fuel and only had change in the pocket.
You really need a mechanical diesel rather than the newer breed of engines.
My car ran quieter on idle but consumption was slightly down compared to straight diesel.
I used a 70/30 of vegi/diesel
Car smelt of chips whenever I pulled up to the lights.

I'm sure in this weather you could run near a 100% mix depending on the car.

What mpg do you get from veggie oil compaired to diesel as if it drops loads then wort be as cost effective

Ie:

Diesel 60mpg 115ppl
Oil 30mpg 66ppl

kam - does the car still smell even if you use clean/new oil?

i think the smell would put me off using oil.

I'll be pwned by the coppers after using getting red diesel soon...

Yes Luke, yes you will................

Dont do it mate is my opinion.

Your car will 'smoke' a lot more and will be obvious as fuck to pc plod who will pull you over and royally rape you.

It does work though. My dad used to run his Terrano on vegatible oil. My golf runs on 'biofuel'. Also known as white diesel. That is normally 'home brewed' with Kerosine........ That fucks up your engine. COMPLETLY.

according to this website you can use 2500 litres of oil each year before you have to pay tax.

my car does around 380 miles to 50 litres.

if i was to run on 100% veg oil, that would be 19,000 miles on tax free oil per year.

shame my cars a petrol.

think i need to get a cheap diesel and give this a go.
