Just sprayed my front grille ive only put a couple of coats of top coat on top atm (yes its been prepped and sanded between layers of base and primer)
I have a little bit of orange peel effect, I cant remember the order to finish it off. Is it:
Another top coat
Sand down with 1500/3000 grade
T-Cut
Lacquer

Or am I missing a step

if you got ornage peel affect you need to polish it with g3 compound

you can still apply clearcoat mate, afterwards just flat it down with 1500/300 then buff it up with G3 or a similar polishing compound and the orange peel will dissapear :y:

So even though its slightly orange peely atm when I apply my lacquer and buff it up with G3 everything will be gravy?

Cheers for the info :y:

No orange peel is cause by the paint not sitting flat, also this is the wkd red paint (metallic) so I was told the lacquer may actually make it flat once applied.

However, went and bought some rubbing compound and a few sheets of 1500 grit sand paper. Will sand it down and spray one more coat, then sand it down and use the rubbing compound before applying the lacquer.

Yep wet sand and then polish it back up with a compound like listed above mate.

May need another layer of lacquer but i would'nt apply shit loads to metallic paint as it can flatten the effect.

orange peel is caused by wrong spraying techniques, ie holding the can too close to the object your spraying try spraying about 25 - 30cm away from it :y:

Preds right, your probably laying it on to thick or your to close to it mate. the conditions your in can affect it to!

Again yep ^^

Temps, ventilation etc. and drying times.

Prep is everything when it comes to the quality of the finish.

90% of a painters job is prep!

We always have arugments with companys after we spray something and it never looks the same as the factory finnish peices... this is usually because factory finnished stuff is heat treated/dried and the conditions are better than an operating table, were as we do it in a manky staircase in bradford...
