if i wanted to run two 1000 watt pioneer 12" subs

do i use a 4 channnel amp or a 2 channel amp

i have been told that 4 channel is crap for 2 subs as the watt is then divided by 4

so a 2 channel amp is good becuase the watt is only divided into two

would i need a 2000 watt amp aswel?

whats the model no of the subs, or/and rms, are they dual voice coil or single?
budget for the amp?

a good mono block would be best, or a 4 channel bridged!

just a little info mate. peak power doesnt really mean anything. a mono block would be best for this situation

youd want it wired up at 2 ohms to get a nice rms running into each sub

as said above, let us know the model of each sub, and its rms power.. a suitable amp can then be reccomended

4 channel bridged wouldnt be the best option, as they cost a lot more than a monoblock, but wouldnt be getting as much power sent to each sub. and monoblocks are more efficient for subs

For subs the only real option is to use a monoblock. If you were to use a 2 channel then subs would working in stereo, which is only good for speakers really, otherwise subs tend to sound muddy and they can interefere with one another.

A monoblock will also give you far superior control over the subs and how they sound and they often come with a bass remote, which is handy.

I take it your subs are something like these...

If so, then your gonna want something that will do almost 1kw rms, but i cannot recommend you an amp till you tell me what sub you have, and what voice coil arrangement they are.

get a 4 channel and bridge both subs

plus if you decied to get 6x9s you would need a 4channel with those two subs

i have 6x9's at the moment, i have a 600 wat amp and one channel isnt working so does it mean it only have 300 watt, so i could use that on the 6x9's?

Bad advice to tell the truth!

You need a mono amp mate!

But firstly you need to ditch those 6x9's! Might sound okay now, but when you have a sub the air from the subs will totally wreck the sound coming from the 6x9's and you will probably blow them!

Just get some component speakers in the front and run them off a small 2 channel amp, then get a mono amp for the subs!:y:

awful idea imo

monoblock it whats needed

i know a few people on here dont rate kenwood amps, but theyre very good imo, and this model is good value i think:

http://www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-kenwood-kac-9104d_p-23280.htm

at 2 ohms it will give 900watt rms, which will be enough to power both subs (400rms each) efficiently.

900w RMS at 2 ohm for £150 just isn't good value for money when the JBL GTO1201.1 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/JBL-GTO-1201-1-1100W-RMS-MONO-BASS-CAR-AMP-NEW_W0QQitemZ110224137958QQihZ001QQcategoryZ18797Q QtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262) is still on the market (after being discontinued) for a bargain price of £140 delivered.

To the original poster

The best option for you is to get a mono amp, the JBL amp above is the best value for money amp on the market at the moment, but the stock won't last forever as it has been discontinued so get 1 while they are still being sold. Wire your subs up like this...

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard/2_4ohmSVC_2ohm.gif

...and you'll have all the bass you need, make sure you follow the advice Coonper gave about the 6x9s and you'll have a great rear set-up.

Note: Make sure you get yourself a decent wiring kit as 1.1kw RMS is a fair amount of power so your wiring needs to be able to handle it.

looks like a crossover.. speaker wire goes in (from amp or headunit) then goes out, to both woofer, and tweeter
