Yeah id suggest getting a better one matey, or check the seals etc of the one you have on:y:
Halfords...there's half your problem right there. Those breathers are not all that good, apart from covering your bay in oil vapour when they get blocked up. What you need is a catch tank, can get ones from ebay for around £50 iirc, you connect the catch tank to the breather outlet on the rocker, the catch tank 'catches' the vapour, then you just empty the catch tank once it's full.

Is your oil breather filter held on with a jubilee clip?

my cheap and cheerful solution is to stick the breather filter on the back of a long pipe and route it to the other side of the engine.
Worked for me years back.. seems to let the vapour condense in the pipe although ideally you'd not have this going back into the crankcase

yes james it is ?
Something like this : click me (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TWE-Oil-Catch-Tank-e-g-Saxo-106-Punto-Subaru-Fiesta_W0QQitemZ330081473154QQihZ014QQcategoryZ722 05QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp 1638Q2em118Q2el1247)
There are others available like Mocal etc, depends how much you're looking to spend

are these easy to fit ?
yes, you connect one end of the pipe to the breather on the rocker cover, the other end goes into the catch tank. you then put a breather filter onto the other outlet on the catch tank, although some people just leave the outlet open.
