hello
got a 1.1 saxo forte 2000 model so its the pahse two shape.
Having some problems with the gears, sometimes 1st gear seems really stiff to change into and i dont want to force it in as im trying to avoid breaking the whole gearbox.
Could this be something to do with the gear linkages? or the clutch? because apart from that the gearbox seems mechanicaly sound and there are no funny noises or whining noises aparent that you would usually find when a gearbox is on its way out.
thanks for your help
Jamie

Sounds to me like your clutch cable needs adjusting or perhaps changing. Basically when you put your foot on the clutch, the clutch probably isn't being fully actuated, making it really difficult for you to engage a gear.

I bet once the car is in the gear you want, the gearbox performs fine???

Where abouts are you based?

this is true, once im in the gear the car will drive fine, its just sometimes stiff to put into, i live in Harrogate kinda near leeds if you dont know where it is.
Using the clutch once in gear it seems fine.
thanks for your help

Have a look where the clutch cable joins the arm on the top of the gearbox. There should be two nuts on the end of this cable, and these are used to adjust the length of the cable. Screw these towards the rear of the car, thus shortening the cable length - do it about 10mm and see what difference this makes.

i think we have already done this? is this when you biting point of the clutch is adjusted higher or lower, because if so we have already tried this and it is no different
thanks

Yeah, thats what the adjustment would do. Where abouts are you based? Perhaps someone from the forum should take a look in person.

thought so, i can only see it as being a clutch replacement, or somthing minor to do with the linkage
im based in harrogate, i dont think many people on the forum are based near me and would be willing to take a look.
thanks
