udm, g220 or porter cable?
atm i found a cheap proter cable for 99 dollars :o free postage :o
the g220 is around 150, and same with the udm (without goodies)
i know the g220 is easy to use, is the next level up the pc? or is that old technology now and the g220 is better?
opinion and views :o looking at getting one asap so i can do the vts for fcs :D

the g220 is slightly better in terms of less vibration and using a more powerful unit from what i heard, plus its uk spec therefore no need for a transformer and a converter plug which you will need for the PC. so if you throw those components in then it will work out to be very similar in terms of price.

okay, looking at the g220 (unless anyone can provide links to cheapish porter cables uk spec etc)
what products should i go for bearing in mine i will be a first time user, sio practising for a bit,
i was thinking of;
buffing pads
light cut pads
not sure on products tho, poor boys swirl remover? what for scratches tho? etc
then when i get a bit better what pads should i go for? and products? whats a compound pad? finishing pad etc?
read various threads on here and polished bliss etc but still confused haha

you want a compound pad, polishing pad, and finishing pad. sonus, lake county etc
looking at that you need a compound pad
polish is upto you, poorboys is fine, i went with merzena and megs though
id go for the g220 aswell. you could try detailing world, see the forsale section on there

Compound pad > Cutting pad.
If you are using a orbital machine you are going to need one as they don't have much power compared to rotarys, you might remove minor swirls with a polishing pad but I use them more to 'refine a finish', polishing pads are usually used after using a cutting compound or cutting pad. They usually use a less abrassive polish to get a clear finish and take out any marks left by the cutting pad.
3M 150 mm Perfect-it III Compounding Pad (09550) or Meguiars 165 mm Soft Buff Cutting Pad is what I would personally go for.
I've used the Lake Country 165 mm CCS Technology Light Cut Pad before but for me the Meg's was better. It's all down to personal preferance, once you do a couple of cars you will see what works for you and what does not.

Okay been looking around and heres what i found, (is the 1000 the best one out atm or am i missing somthing since 72 quid seems cheap)
UDM (http://www.autopia-carcare.com/udm-1000-na.html)
This comes with a 5" backing plate, althought i may need a 3/4" one for smaller areas? opinions?
6.5" Cutting Pad (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/meguiars-buffing-pads/meguiars-6-5-softbuff-cutting-pad/prod_203.html)

6.5" Finishing Pad (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/meguiars-buffing-pads/meguiars-6-5-softbuff-finishing-pad/prod_205.html)
SFX-1 (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/polish/sonus-sfx-1-restore-polish/prod_43.html)
SFX-2 (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/polish/sonus-sfx-2-enhance-polish/prod_44.html)
SFX-3 (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/polish/sonus-sfx-3-final-finish-polish/prod_45.html)

I would advise the G220 because you get a warrenty with them and the porter cable is known for getting the paint too hot and you don't get a warrenty with the udm or porter cable i believe so not worth the risk :y:

The Ultimate Detailing Machine model 1000 comes complete with a 1-Year Replacement Warranty.
also just noticed its 110v so i would need a transformer to get it to 240?
and those ones in the link are refurbed ones, but in general i will get a uk spec one, g220 is looking good tho
EDIT - on cleanyourcar, whats the difference between sonus das and normal sonus kits?
EDIT - probs just going to get Clicky (http://www.cleanyourcar.co.uk/polishing/polishing-machine/meguiars-g220-complete-sonus-kit/prod_415.html) and a 3.5" backing plate + sfx1,2,3 4" pads and tape :o

a smaller backing plate is handy, but you could always get one at a later date
if your getting sonus polish then get the sonus pads
all the polishes do there job, but menzerna or megs is what id go for
i couldnt tell you what the cut on the sonus are of the top of my head. but normally youd have two polishes. say megs 83 and megs 80. or menz 3.02 and 85rd. then you may have power gloss for back up

like the sfx range?
sfx 1 - heavy damage / bad paintwork
sfx 2 - light damage and polish
sfx3 - a final polish for the wet look ?

Nothing like Menzerna or Meg's polishes tbh.
SFX-3 is a sealant so will give a glossy finish and added shine but takes ages to work in.
I prefer ClearKote or Menzerna Final Finish as they also give better results and more gloss :)
