As it's nothing to do with Saxo's and not many check the Insurance forum, i hoped i could get away with my question in General :D

So,

Looking for a summer car to share with my father, thinking MKI MR2 T-Bar, non turbo. Bare in mind it wont be a minter, sub £1000 budget for it.

I was wondering if anyone new anything about classic policies, with limited mileage etc.

I know it's not strictly a classic, they're only 20 years old or so, however we'll onl be using it at weekends for a fun car to cruise around in.

Any particular companies to aim for?

I'm only 18, with one years driving experience, will this make it a little harder to get such insurance? (Aim to have my dad as main driver, and me as a named driver, car will be his, as he'll be using it most!)

You should be able to get a classic policy on a mk1 MR2!

You'd be best off looking for an owners club to see if they have an insurance scheme!

We have classic insurance on our 1995 TVR Chimaera. I found it difficult to find an insurance company that would insure people under 23 but came across a company called Haggerty (http://www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/). I phoned them up to see if they would insure me being 22. They said they'd speak to their underwriters and ring me back. They rang back to say they'd insure me but it would be a higher premium because of my age but it was still only £535 for the year with my 24 year old boyfriend as a named driver. We have a limited mileage policy and an agreed value on the car once they recieved photo's of it. I think they base the price on the youngest driver. I think everyone who is on the policy has to have their own car for daily use with insurance on it in their own name

Ah, very useful Natalie, i'll give them a ring and enquire about i!

Hopefully it will lead to something positive, i have my own car and insurance anyway, so there's a slight chance i'm in for some luck.

Cheers for info guys.
