Just rang up bell and got a quote of £3k for a 2001 VTR, The quote i got online with the exact same details was £1500... Anyone understand why im getting this ? Am i better off getting insurance online ?

£1500 does seem a bit unrealistic online though as i apparently live in a category E area (Nr Sheffield)

Hi Guys,

New comer to the forum. Also a serious petrol head!
Have spent some years trying to keep up with Saxo's in the 750MC stock hatch championship and wondered how they were so fast. Racing a Mk2 XR2, found it frustrating trying to keep with the 205's and the Saxo's.

Finally bought a 2001 LHD VTR the other day, to take out to Spain (yes I am an old git).

What a car though. Handles brilliantly and goes really well. Brakes as well as a 205GTI. I am going to end up being a hooligan again ( at the age of 54).
My 20 yr old son is really envious of me. Going to let him compete in some sprints or hillclimbs with it

Insurance was really good. £184 fully comp with LV. (joys of being old)
Seriously guys, try and do your advanced driver's course. It gets your insurance down. Also, if any of you decide to get a VTR/S, go and do a half day racing course @ any of the circuits. Not so you can be Billy The B******s on thr road, but you will get taught about cornering, braking etc, and it will make you a better driver, in the long run.

Then go and get a Speed licence from the MSA (about £45), join your local car club, (see MSA listings for your area) and go and have some fun at sprints and hillclimbs. There is a standard road car class. You do not have modify your car at all.

When you can afford a VTR/S, just drive it first. To do well, it has to go round corners well and brake well. The disc set-up on them is good.
Go to a 750 MC meeting and watch the Saxo's in the stock hatch race.

You will be suprised how good they are. Go for it. Good Luck

How is he breaking the law? But he is definately getting ripped off lol

I tihnk he is assuming that the guy is the main driver of the car, he said he was a named driver on his mothers insurance.
