Of course you'll need to take the driveshaft out. Undo the hub nut (n/s),bottom ball joint, arb (maybe need to loosen the top mount bolts), and pry the wishbone down, and then pull the strut towards you, then the driveshaft should be able to squeeze out.

Might find it easier to just take the whole stut off, then may give you room to take the gearbox out.

You'll need to support the engine, then undo the gearbox mount, under the battery.

Then just slide the gearbox off the splines on the clutch, and off.

Do the opposite to put it back on.

The gearbox may still be quite difficult to get off once the shaft is out, so just be brutal with your wiggling about!

I has also just been told that you need to take out the starter motor. Is this tru?
Also do both drive shafs o/f and n/s need to come out?

Thanks

No probs, good luck with it!

Should be fine - just make sure you put the earthing straps back on okay when you put it back - as might not start without them.

Also, depending on how you've supported the engine (I'm presuming a jack under it) don't be too brutal with it, but the gearbox will probably require a little 'wiggle' to get it out.

Could be tempted to change the crankshaft oil seal whilst the clutch id off, depends on your mileage and if it's been done b4. Is easy to do, just drill n tap two screws into it either side, n pull it out. Then just put oil around the new one, and push it in.

Urm. . . . can't remember about starter motor, is only like 3 bolts to take it off (plus the leads on tha back of it). I think the 3 bolts screw through the engine into the gearbox, so will probably need to come off.

You should just need to take the n/s shaft out - might help to have the o/s off when trying to put the gearbox back on, but shouldn't be a problem relocating the gearbox with the o/s shaft on.

The starter motor will definately have to come off, and the N/S driveshaft will need removing, no need to take out the O/S driveshaft though!

sorry to barge in lol, cant you take the shaft out without disconnecting the hub?

if you remove the passenger side lower ball joint

and shaft nut

thats it

the drivers side will slip out

cluth alognment tool is needed cos it will be a right bastard to put the box back in

doesnt it say in the manual somewhere that you can leave the shaft on the hub though? i thought you just undo the ball joint swing outwards to pull the shaft out with the shaft still connected to the hub.:wall:

you could pull the shaft out of the gear box, but you will lose some of your gearbox oil. easier taking the shaft out of the hub.

and it says drain the transmission oil too lol so you wont have any oil coming out ;)
